Sounds like a darn big road hazard to me! I wouldn't fancy running into a
12' steel cross on the side of the road. I am pretty sure that there are
more appropriate places for commemoratives than as road hazards on the
public right of way. We as a country have worked since the time that the car
first took to the dirt roads to improve road safety, now we should start
degrading public safety as a public memorial to the death of someone on
those same roads, sounds a bit stupid to me. There are currently memorials
to these people, check it out,

Now I do not wish to demean or trivialize the death of anyone's loved ones,
much less a civil servants that has died in the line of duty. But, if Utah
is anything like it is around here, you cant fling a dead cat without
hitting one of them little road side memorials, much less a huge steel
cross. Name a bridge, or a road, or something else after the person, great,
and have done, no one needs huge road hazards stuck up allover the place.
There are plenty of ways to memorialize deserving people, this is not one of
them. This is just more of the same crap theist pull to shove there god crap
in everyone's face like it or not. Not only this, one wonders why now all of
a sudden, should this initiative be decided upon, being that the last
trooper recognized in the above site, died in February 2000, in a helicopter
crash. In fact he was practicing auto rotation maneuvers and experienced an
equipment malfunction, just where along what road should his 12' steel cross
be erected and just who decides where it should go?
Maybe, go to the site above and pick one of the troopers and write a note of
condolence and thanks and ask if it could be forwarded to the loved ones of
one of the Troopers, that is a memorial. That is being remembered and
thanked for there service.
