A lot of them would say, "I don't see how anybody could watch this and
not believe in God". When I saw Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten
Commandments", the kid sitting next to me actually said that.

'Who's the deluded one here', he asks? Well, gee <scratching my head> I'd
have to say those conspiracylizen' scientists. Well the dang Bible is so old
that not even one single original 'book', or even those two 'Tablets' given
to Moses by the Almighty himself, has survived. Now that *has* to go down as
irrefutable proof that those scientific wackos are wrong. I have to believe
that because 'God' saw to it that scribal-error filled *copies* of those
originals survived in languages *most* people living on the planet couldn't
possibly understand without a translator! (How do you explain *that* you
'full of your own stuff' scientists!) That makes it 'mystical', and
therefore 'true', wouldn't you say? The damn bible is *OLD* for Pete's
sakes!
And that part about 'God' and the light of the universe: He's *GOD*! He
could make light travel through even 'water' if he wanted to -- and even
turn that water into wine! Says so, right in the bible.
What *can't* he do, you ask? Well the only thing that comes to mind is show
himself to us sometime in our lifetime in a way that *no-one* on the planet
could deny that he was truly 'God', for one. Another is putting an end to
all human misery, suffering, anguish and pain in our lifetime -- without the
need for us to die first. I guess even 'God's' have their limitations --
*especially* imaginary ones.

Everbody knows that it was the ancient ones that was wise. How can
anybody look at today's world and then at the ancient world and not see
that. It is so obvious. Just look at how far advanced Atlantis was.
People today have their heads all filled with physics and history and
all kinds of stuff. Watching TV, reading books and generally clouding
up their minds. Back then, all they could know was the really important
stuff like GOD, so they knew it well. They were on much better terms
with they guy. Heck, they even dressed like him.

And that part about 'God' and the light of the universe: He's *GOD*! He
could make light travel through even 'water' if he wanted to -- and even
turn that water into wine! Says so, right in the bible.

Now, with all the professional magicians, he is afraid people would just
think it was a magic act. He never was able to work humor into any of
his stuff, so it wouldn't even come off as a good magic act. He is
afraid he just couldn't compete with today's slick performers. He has
also gotten a bit rusty.

What *can't* he do, you ask? Well the only thing that comes to mind is show
himself to us sometime in our lifetime in a way that *no-one* on the planet

He is just a bit shy. He is also embarrassed that his attire is so out
of style. Maybe if he could just befriend somebody who would clothes
shop for him.

I wonder if we all prayed for him, that some *other* kind deity could help
Jesus/God get all spiffed up all proper now -- just like we would *expect* a
2000 year-old crucified deity to look like -- and ease his way into
displaying himself to the entire world. Been quite a while. And like you
point out -- is probably a little 'rusty'. (And may even fear getting
booed.)

In order for satire to be effective, there must be some agreed upon
upper limit of absurdity.
There is no upper limit of absurdity as far as religious fundamentalism
is concerned (keep in mind I was watching that at work so I had the
volume all the way down)
There are people that I wouldn't put it past to see 'True Pee Waits' as
a good idea.

Yeah, i'm sure that is a satire, but just as certain that a lot of
fundies will take it seriously and show it at their gatherings and
e-mail it all around. And the author won't be able to convince them it
is a joke.
