Atheists picking up roadside trash |
Not a huge deal, but today's Sacramento Bee has a front page story
called "California Talks Trash" regarding the growing roadside litter
problem here. People from Atheists and Other Freethinkers are pictured
picking up trash along Highway 99; I know they have adopted a section
of roadway, which I thought was on I5 out near the airport. I just
thought it was nice to see a positive portrayal of atheists, as opposed
to reading about someone insisting we're trying to impose atheism in
the classroom or whatever.

Hmmm... I wonder if they would allow the local chapter of NORML to do that?

I'm a member of a local group (Space Coast Freethought Association) that
adopted a busy section of roadway in our county (that's Brevard County
in Florida) last spring. Once a month we pick up the trash. I suspect
this sort of this is more common than most people think.
We haven't had any media coverage, which may not be a bad thing. Some of
the good Christian folk around these parts would be likely to save up
their trash just so they could dump it on our patch. Obviously most
wouldn't, but it would only take a few to increase the load considerably.

Unless you're an especially thick-skinned nudist who wants easy access
to Playalinda, why would you choose to live in Brevard County?

From what I've seen, it would be more than a few.

That's a long story that's too far off topic to consider. Has nothing to
do with nudism though.

You need to pick up a lot more trash than you generate before it's noticed.
