Object: Atheists with kids, I have a question.
Have you ever had a parent disallow their kids to play with your kids?
I have a two year old and I wonder if this will happen someday as she
gets to an age where she begins to make friends.

Nope, but then I'm not in the babble belt.

gets to an age where she begins to make friends.

I would be suprised if it ever happens - but then I don't live in the

Likewise, in every respect. American atheists have it tough. Religious
intolerance isn't seen as a virtue in the civilised world. I hope
America will find that out one day.

Since when has the former America ever been civilized?

If so, civilization vanished after 1492.

I'd give it a few more years, but am in agreement on the principle, as
would be, I expect, the survivors of the Inca.

How can we, Martin? We're a Christshun nation. (Sound it out - it
sounds the same as the way they spell it.)

I cannot conceive of a god who rewards and punishes his creatures
or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither
can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives
its physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egotism,
cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eter-
nity of life and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the exist-
ing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a
portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in
nature.

I'm an atheist whose kid disallowed herself to play with a Baptist
fundy kid. No biggie. I figure if it makes a difference to the
parents, their kid is not worth spitting on.

No, but her mother is Christian. My kid hasn't decided what she thinks
yet, so she's never told her friends she has doubts.

What part of the country do you live in? Suburban California cannot be
compared to rural Florida, for example.
FWIW, I know of a lot of situations where one child was prohibited from
playing with another, and the reason was never religious differences.
The only time it's even come close is when children like to say things
like "your parents and you are going to hell". Usually this only comes
from kids in very religious schools who don't usually interact with
children of other religions anyway.
My step-daughter once told my mother, innocently and matter-of-factly,
that she was going to hell because she was Jewish. This was after a few
years at a Christian school in Florida, so what do you expect? ;)
