Att : Gregor K - Re Excerpts from an ex-athiest testimony !! |
I emailed the author of your recent post with the above subject and received
this reply today... i note that no one has asked his permission to use his
testimony.. no big surprise there i guess...but i thought i would post this
(with permission !)

Hi Steve, I haven't used the groups since I got married. However
before that I usually hung out on nz.soc.religion. Although I used
to lurk on alt.atheism and talk.origins occasionally I don't think
I've ever posted there except by mistake when people altered the
follow-ups from another group mid-thread. I don't approve of so-
called "christians" flaming the atheism groups and if part of my
testimony was posted there it was certainly without my permission.
However I'm a real person, and the testimomy was true assuming it's
been copied correctly. You can check it against the copy on my
homepage:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/dgedye/tstmny.htm
But I'd like to point out that the link to it from this page:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/dgedye/personal.html
contains the following disclaimer:
"So who am I? Well, I'm a Christ follower, or Christian.
That means that I believe that Jesus is who the Bible says he is, I
have accepted that my life is screwed up beyond my ability to repair,
and I have accepted God's offer of a pardon at Jesus' expense. For
some reason this prompts a few people to send me abusive email, which
I cheerfully ignore. However if you write to me, and say something
reasonable then I will be reasonable in return. Since I spent the
first 20 or so years of my life as an Atheist I dislike people trying
to shove their beliefs down others throats as much as anyone. If you
want to know why I decided to become a Christ follower you could read
my testimony, but it's kind of personal, so don't feel you have to.
If you do, don't say you weren't warned."
So it was designed to answer the questions of people who email me
curious about why I believe what I believe. It wasn't designed as a
tract to be used as a weapon on alt.atheism!
I really should get around to updating it to include the fact I don't
go to church anymore and am currently doing a course on dealing with
spiritual abuse. I'm still a believer though, although if you check
some of my postings on nz.soc.religion you'll see I'm far from a
fundamentalist and usually have more in common with the atheists than
the fundie christians who flame the group.
Feel free to post this email to the alt.atheism group if you wish.
cheers
Darren 'Daz' Gedye
