Support the Marriage Amendment!
We appreciate all you have been doing in contacting Members to support the
marriage amendment, and now it is Round Three for our "Weekly 25."
The vote on the Marriage Protection Amendment in the House of
Representatives is expected to be sometime during the week of September 20th
or following. This important vote could very well shape the outcome of this
fall's election. Although it will be an uphill battle, the measure actually
stands a better chance of passage in the House than it did in the Senate.
A number of the "Weekly 25" this week come from states that are voting on
state constitutional amendments, such as Michigan, so the issue is on a
number of constituents and politicians minds.
While it is important these state amendments pass, they will still be
vulnerable to activist judges without the protection of a U.S.
Constitutional Amendment. These "Weekly 25" lists of Congressmen need to
hear from those in their state that want to protect the institution of
marriage.
Look for those Congressmen on the weekly list that are from your state. Even
if you don't live in their district, some will have aspirations to run
statewide in the future and they also know that you may have family or
friends living in their district. If you have family in one of the states
listed, please forward this email to them.
These Representatives must hear from you. If they don't think this is an
important issue for the people in their state then they will do whatever
they can to avoid the issue.
Many Members of Congress will hold town meetings during the month of August
while they are on summer recess. Please attend these meetings and take
friends and family with you. Ask your Congressman if they will protect
marriage. Several Senators heard their constituents' overwhelming support
for marriage in meetings like these and it had an impact.
Call into radio talk shows and bring up the topic and write letters to the
editor to keep the issue before the public and your Congressman. When I was
in office, the second place I went to in the newspaper after the front page
was the letters to the editors. Your opinion counts! You can locate local
media outlets by clicking here!
This Week's Contact List
Also please call their district offices while they are home for August and
voice your support for marriage. For talking points on the Marriage
Protection Amendment, go to FRC's protect marriage webpage.
Once again I also want to invite you to join with us and literally thousands
of other Christians who will be praying and fasting for this battle and for
revival in our nation. We will be fasting on Thursdays through the month of
August, so please consider joining with us and inviting your church or
prayer group to join as well.
Just click on your Congressman's name, and you will be linked to his/her
contact page that includes the district office numbers and addresses, as
well as an opportunity to send them an email letter (click here for a
sample) urging their support of the Marriage Protection Amendment.
