FRC Standing Strong for Family Values in RNC Platform
At about 7 pm last night, FRC staff here in New York received the first
draft of the Republican Party platform. The staff spent the next seven plus
hours reading, rereading, editing and writing amendments to strengthen any
language regarding the family, including marriage, abortion, embryonic stem
cell research, abstinence education and more. But that was just the
beginning. When the committee began it's deliberations this morning, FRC was
there making sure the pro-family delegates sitting on the various committees
had the talking points and suggested language for amendments they would need
to ensure the elements in the platform dealing with family policy were clear
and strong. I have to say I believe our efforts paid off. Though the
platform has not been officially finalized, I can report that we are very
pleased with the sections in the platform dealing with marriage and abortion
due to the fact that much of the language suggested by FRC was included,
making it clear that the Republican Party is dedicated to traditional
marriage and the protection of the unborn. The strong pro-family language on
both marriage and life, I believe, is the result of very hard work by FRC's
team here in NY working with friends like Phyllis Schlafly, Gary Bauer, and
others. And we couldn't be here without your support. Thank you. What is
still to be worked out is the language surrounding embryonic stem cell
research. That debate may go well into tonight, but you can be assured that
FRC staff will stay as long as it takes to get the strongest language
possible passed through the committee.
As part of our efforts to highlight the importance of protecting marriage,
Republican delegates arriving in New York this weekend will find more than
fruit baskets and tickets to Broadway plays awaiting them in their hotel
rooms. Family Research Council is placing a complimentary copy of its brand
new book, OUTRAGE: How Gay Activists and Liberal Judges Are Trashing
Democracy to Redefine Marriage in the hands of over 4,000 Republican
delegates and alternates. We unveiled the book this morning at a press
conference right outside the Javits Center in Manhattan, the building
housing the ongoing GOP Platform meetings. I want to thank FRC's Peter
Sprigg, who authored OUTRAGE, for his excellent work on this project. In a
very readable and articulate fashion, Peter demolishes the arguments made by
homosexual "marriage" advocates on this issue. I encourage you to get a copy
for yourself, family and friends. OUTRAGE is published by Regnery Publishing
and is already in bookstores around the country. You can see Peter's book by
going to FRC's website, available at the link below.
Media Note: FRC's Genevieve Wood will appear on FOX News tomorrow morning at
10:30AM ET discussing the upcoming election and the women's vote.

Wilberforce Forum Launches National Preaching Initiative
The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on the marriage
amendment sometime after September 20 and in response, Sunday, September 19
has been declared Marriage Protection Sunday. I encourage your church to
participate on September 19 by taking a stand for marriage. To give churches
and pastors the resources they need to join this fight the Wilberforce
Forum, created by Chuck Colson, has created the National Preaching
Initiative. This new and exciting program is designed to equip pastors to
address their congregations on God's design for marriage, families, and
civic duty. Your church can find excellent resources and sample sermons by
clicking on the link below. Help us get the word to churches and pastors
across the nation and join in this preaching effort on Redefining Marriage:
A Crisis for Children.

Hopefully most of them will end up getting tossed into the trash can where
