Australian Muslim leader compares uncovered women to exposed meat
Thursday October 26, 2006
A senior Muslim cleric in Australia has sparked a furore after
comparing women who do not wear a headscarf to "uncovered meat",
implying that they invited sexual assault.
Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali delivered his comments in a religious
address on adultery to around 500 worshippers in Sydney last month,
but they only came to the attention of the wider public when they were
published in a newspaper called the Australian, today.
Sheik Hilali was quoted as saying: "If you take out uncovered meat and
place it outside ... without cover, and the cats come to eat it ...
whose fault is it, the cats' or the uncovered meat's? The uncovered
meat is the problem. If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab
(the headdress worn by some Muslim women), no problem would have
occurred."
The Egyptian-born cleric, and the mufti of Sydney's biggest mosque,
today sought to defuse the outrage his comments had sparked...
The paper also reported that Sheik Hilali alluded in his sermon to the
gang rapes in Sydney of six years ago, suggesting the attackers were
not to blame.
While not specifically referring to the attacks on four women for
which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences,
Sheik Hilali said there were women who "sway suggestively" and wore
make-up and immodest dress ... "and then you get a judge without mercy
(rahma) and he gives you 65 years".
"But the problem, but the problem all began with who?" he asked.
<snip>
And we're wasting a trillion dollars and thousands of American lives
to give these people DEMOCRACY...

While despicable, this is not a singularly Muslim point of view. Even
in the secular West, rape victims are often blamed for their own
assaults. It is a common courtroom tactic to highlight the victim's
dress or behavior as "suggestive" or "promiscuous."

I rather like the idea that I can walk around in public without having
to worry about who is carrying a firearm.
Don't get me wrong, I am a shooter, and have been since childhood.
I just think that the EVIDENCE shows that the difference in firearms
woundings and deaths in the USA vs Australia says it all.
The right to bear arms, when combined with a deliberate policy of
inculcating fear in the general populace has resulted in an avoidable
mass slaughter of innocents.

Australian Muslim leader compares uncovered women to exposed meat
Thursday October 26, 2006

A senior Muslim cleric in Australia has sparked a furore after
comparing women who do not wear a headscarf to "uncovered meat",
implying that they invited sexual assault.

The only reason it is a furore is because people
no longer face up to the common sense facts of life.

Thanks only to feminazi propaganda politicians
are now too terrified to tell the truth about
this. Hence we see the Auzzie P.M. quick to the
microphone to denounce the comment. He's got to
look good for the female vote instead of showing
some balls and repealing the right to vote for
women.

D.

Idiots like you are another good reason for the right to keep and bare
arms.

Cat

If you meant "bear arms", then Australians (in general) have no such
"right".

Too bad.
I have a concealed carry permit and a 9mm Makarov in my purse, right in
there with my lip gloss.

Cat

I rather like the idea that I can walk around in public without having
to worry about who is carrying a firearm.
Don't get me wrong, I am a shooter, and have been since childhood.
I just think that the EVIDENCE shows that the difference in firearms
woundings and deaths in the USA vs Australia says it all.

The right to bear arms, when combined with a deliberate policy of
inculcating fear in the general populace has resulted in an avoidable
mass slaughter of innocents.

It's tragic in a way. I enjoyed the gunlessness and relative
crimelessness of Scandinavia and Europe - but even there things are
changing, I fear for the worst. I don't know what the solution is but
intend to protect myself.

Did you happen to visit Switzerland? They Loooooove their guns there.
Odd thing. With no culture of fear, they have a very low murder rate
for a place where travelling around with a loaded assualt rifle lying
exposed on the passenger seat of a car doesn't attract the eye of the
policeman writing out a speeding ticket.

Exactly.
It's the deliberately inculcated culture of fear that is the main
source of the naked agression against one's neighbours.
The free availablity of firearms merely facilitates horrific and easy
crimes.

Excellent point. I agree that America's culture of fear has a huge
impact on the level of violent crime. That and economic and racial
inequality.
