You are surprised?
Blackwater is not the only place you will find Ex-South African police
and military.
A recent show on Discovery's, The Military Channel featured a Marine
squad leader who was a South African. Maybe a legitimate immigrant
volunteer, maybe not.
Then consider the similarity between our current detention without
warrant or access to legal representation, and the Apartheid era South
African 90 & 180 day detention and house arrest laws. These allowed an
investigating officer to detain a suspect in solitary confinement for 90
days without access to anyone, no family, no attorney, but the detaining
officer or officers. At the end of the 90 days the detention order could
be simply renewed by a magistrate for another 90 days. This was supposed
to be the judicial review. Some people were detained this way for years.
It is almost as though our current administration and HomeLand Security
hired Apartheid era South Africans as security consultants.
Of course it may just be our own home grown erosion of constitutional
rights.
