Take Action In Your Community
Dear AU Members & Supporters,
September is back to school month. In addition to buying supplies,
greeting old friends, and hitting the books, students may be faced
with church-state concerns. Clubs that want to discriminate based on
religion, school-sponsored prayer and attempts to insert religion into
public school science classes are just a few recent examples of issues
of religion in the public schools. (For more information on recent
issues,

Promote Student Activism!
Whether in college or high school, Americans United has resources for
students who want to stand up for their rights and the rights of their
peers. Are you a student who would like more information? Do you know
a student who might like to get involved? The AU student website is a
one-stop shop of information for students who care about church-state
separation. At www.au.org/student there is information on how
to start AU campus groups, how to sign up for student alerts as well
as our Facebook and MySpace Groups, how to join AU at a
discounted rate, what the internship opportunities are at the national
office, and much more.
The separation of church and state is constantly being tested on our
campuses. Just recently, Americans United drew attention - and is
currently battling - a majority-rules effort in a Texas school
district to allow prayer at a public school graduation. Without
the help of student supporters, we would likely not have ever heard
about it.
Student activists are critical in helping Americans United work to
protect the rights of all Americans. Please help us expand our network
by sharing this message with students who may be interested. If you
would like to find out more about our campus organizing program,
please contact Anton Ochoa at ochoa@au.org.
