Bad news... |
I survived. After numerous hours in hospital under observation I was allowed
home. It seems this funnelweb bite was as fortunate as the last... the
fucker got under the strap of one of my sandals and couldn't raise its head
high enough to inflict anything more than a warning.
The story... I was doing some painting outside and went to refill my roller
when I saw this bloody great funnelweb running away from my foot. Naturally
I stomped the fucker. Then I refilled my roller and went to get on the
ladder... BURN, NAUSEA, SWEATING!!!
The ambulance paramedics decided that a BP of 164/100 was a bit high so it
was off to hospital. Because I had been bitten before, my body was able to
clear the poison fairly quickly so no antivenene was required.
The doctors identified what was left of the thing from its colour, fangs and
spinnerets. Someone commented that it was rather small. My response was that
they'd be rather small if a fucking great foot came out of the sky and
flattened them. All I got was a raised eyebrow.

Small funnel webs are almost always the males and apparently are more
dangerous around the Brisbane latitude than most other parts. I cant
remember but I think it was the male that packed the most venom. Go ask
"CRIKEY"!

My grandmother had an almost identical experience a few weeks back:
She was sitting out the back painting her nails and pondering over the next
move in her crochet doiley, when she looked down and spotted a daddy long
legs creepy suspiciously away from her foot. Naturally, no sooner had she
stomped it before the psychosomatics began - burn, nausea, sweating. The
dreaded funnelweb had found it's next victim...
Needless to say, the ambulance paramedics she'd managed to call after
bashing the keypad of her medic-alert phone with her dying breath were
pretty non-plussed. Like yourself, she was taken to hospital where she was
administered some placebo's and a big hug from a fat nurse. To this day the
sight of two freckles on her left foot sends shivers down her spine.
Fortunately her strong constitution and natural tendencies towards privacy
kept the issue off the front pages of the Sydney Morning Herald...
Glad to hear you survived the ordeal Kad. Last thing you need is *another*
puncture...

Since I have Hodgkin's Disease, it could be anytime. I could come out
of remission in the next month, or live to be 100. Or I could be hit
by a bus on the way to work today. So I enjoy the time I have.

Glad things worked out for you. You had a lot of well-wishers, as you
probably already know.
Yeah. All my fans want me dead.
Especially the Jayturd idiot, he would like to get an invitation for the
