Bad Penny Resurfaces... |
Yeah, we were on the backside of Hurricane Dennis...but the storm tracked
northwest from the coast and took out a mess of power lines.
I got to do without electricity from Sunday afternoon (RIGHT in the middle
of the last few minutes of a "Deadwood" episode, of course) until around
4:30 p.m. today (Thursday).
Man, oh, man, I sweated buckets and drank all the Gatorade, Hawaiian Punch,
and fruit juice I could get ahold of. It was in the mid-90's (F, not C)
with high humidity...after a little yard work on Monday I didn't feel like
moving at all.
No damage to the house other than a few shingles; no damage to the
neighbor's dogs--but once I've got prints made of the photos I took, there
might be damage to the neighbors.
Miss me? :p~~~~~~~

Yes! And I'm thrilled that you got through the storm. Glad the neighbor's
dogs are okay as well, but those poor things need to get some new owners.

I keep forgetting to make the call to the ASPCA at work--I was hardly ever

Ah yes. I too just love trying to get errands done in the traffic of half
panicked people set off by the president of Jeff parish hiking his skirt
and running around shrieking.
Just *can't get enough of that.
The state made some noises about taking over the authority to order
evacuations, removing it from the local parish and city authorities. I'm
hoping they go through with it. President Hissy Fit stuck his nose in the
air and keeps insisting he was right and has actually threatened to pull
out of the evacuation plan because he was so right (ignoring that he was
flatly wrong of course). He also had a fit because the state would start
contra-flow when he demanded it. Never mind he crapped his pants in front
of us all, violated the evacuation plan, and damn near started a panic.
<snarl>
I had to move a handicapped, pretty much bed ridden person with
wheelchair, walker, bedside potty, boxes of medication and all, get to the
pharmacy to stock up on things and rush my preparations for him to be home
(I was planning on finishing that weekend). I was actually figuring the
worst we'd get would be bad storms and the city is flood prone. The area
the house is in hardly ever. We'd have to get a direct strike before we'd
be in serious, erm, *not hot water. <g>
