Object: Baron Samedi, a novel death god indeed
Baron Samedi is one of the Gods, related to and intertwined with Baron
Cemetiere and Baron La Croix. He is a Gud of the Americas, bridging the
Guds and Legba. Both are guardians of the crossroads, the place where
spirits cross over into our world. If the intercessions desired are
with the loa , then Legba is saluted and asked to allow the loa to
participate. If the intercessions are with the dead, then Gud ( Ghede )
is the intercessor. Baron Samedi is usually seen wearing top hat, black
coat tails, sunglasses, and smoking a cigar.

I bet you say that to all the snappy dressing gods, are there any others
you would like to see? For now, we [me, myself, & I] are in the
death/underworld series.

Boring as hell, but interesting at the same time. Odd how that can work
so well to an inquiring mind.

flying monkey wearing a Cardinal's hat. That should shake things up a
little. ;-)

the full regalia. Where I went to school, there was no air conditioning
and some times it got darn hot in those classrooms.. :-)

Dang, they must have suffered. I found it to be very uncomfortable.

so I could only imagine the reaction
if I dressed up like a witchy Pope ;)

I was thinking. You could wear the traditional witch outfit with a
Pope
hat, carry a broomstick, and on your shoulder have perched a little
flying monkey wearing a Cardinal's hat. That should shake things up
a
little. ;-)

Oh my ;)

Heh! :-)

You just want me to push these people over the edge! :)

Nah. Not your family. Perhaps though you could stand in front of a
church. I'd look for pictures of the riot on the 6pm news. ;-)

D'oh!

What makes you think I have some sort of a death wish?!?!? ;)

Ok. Better not then. :-)

I like that term "Gud of the Americas". As an aside, have you read
_American Gods_ by Gaiman. I think you will really like it if you
haven't. _Anansi's Boys_ is also very good.
There is so much crap written about Voodoo that it is hard to tell

made up by lazy writers. For example, a search on Samedi and Legba
turn up a website selling "essential" oils and one detailing the
Marvel Comics universe before anything useful.
Crossroads Gods are pretty interesting fellows (almost always male).
They are usually either tricksters or closely related to the
tricksters. The ability to pass between the worlds (that of the gods
and that of people) is rate and the guarding that passage gives power
over both people and the gods. It is interesting to see two gods here,
one for each direction.

Boob&Cartwheel would read that title as "Nancy Boys by Gayman" :-)

Similar to bridge gods or monsters.

My copy of the book is titled _Anansi Boys_. The double entendre
in the title is intentional, but not related to the contents
of the book. The title of a book can vary depending on where
it's marketed, so maybe it really is called _Anansi's Boys_
in some locales.
_American Gods_ and _Anansi Boys_ are both very good. The novella
_Monarch of the Glen_, a sequel to _American Gods_, is also very
good. It contains some spoilers: read _American Gods_ first.

No. Astoundingly enough I have read it twice, I even looked up the
spelling on Amazon, and I still got it wrong.

_American Gods_ and _Anansi Boys_ are both very good. The novella
_Monarch of the Glen_, a sequel to _American Gods_, is also very
good. It contains some spoilers: read _American Gods_ first.

In fact, the advice - read _American Gods_ first - is good for
everyone. Go now and pick up the book and read it.

I never thought of bridge trolls that way. In fact, the only bridge

would invoke that fear.
