Isaac Hayes Quits 'South Park'
By ERIN CARLSON, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago
Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no
longer stomach its take on religion.
Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy
Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line
has been crossed.
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire
ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others
begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.
"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be
respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the
past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and
practices."
"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with
The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with
his faith of Scientology... He has no problem - and he's cashed plenty of
checks - with our show making fun of Christians."
Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its
celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a
top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one
of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant
savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a
closet and won't come out.
Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of
Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for
religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and
bigotry begin."

What a whiny little twerp. He was okay with everyone else's religion
being ridiculed, but he can't handle it when his own is given the same
treatment.

The best thing the "South Park" folks could do is to
replace Hayes with someone who sounds just like him
and go on as though nothing had happened. I love the
Chef character. Hayes, on the other hand, has turned
out to be a big disappointment. He may have a lot of
talent, but he's still a hypocrite. He deserves to be
replaced.

I say good riddance. I always thought it was weird for South Park to use
a $cientologist for a voice in the first place.

What a load of horseshit. I hope they do an episodes where
they put Chef's head in a trash compacter and squeeze all the
religious ***** out through his ears. Then maybe they can
have the bloated corpse of L. Ron sodomize Chef with a drilling
rig. You know something "tasteful" and "classy" like they
normally do.

SNORT! Dang, almost shot a carrot stick out my nose! :)

I made my nephew snarf shredded lettuce once.

ACK! What a visual! :)

We'd gone to Subway for

meatball subs; I don't even remember what I said, but it caught
Rob right at the wrong (or right) moment: SNRRRK! and there
sprang forth a crop of lettuce from out his honker.

Priceless!

ROTFL!!!

I wish I could take credit for it, but my timing on such things

isn't

_that_ good.

Holy crap, my eyes are tearing :)

So were his :)

I bet! :)

Next time I see him, I'm trying for a meatball >:)

Damn! What if it gets stuck?!?! Imagine having to go to the
emergency room for that! :)

May I be the first to congratulate South Park, with their achievement
of a minor victory against total insanity.

Thanks for the link.
Chef hasn't been on much lately, and it's sad to see him go. I suppose
the Matt and Trey guys have a tough time being honest in a situation
like this, the repercussions are kind of harsh.
One thing about SP, you have to lead a very sensible life to not be
offended by any of the episodes! they roast idiotic behavior where
ever it is.

on 13 Mar 2006 in alt.atheism, dear sweet Robibnikoff
(witchypoo@broomstick.com) made the light shine upon us with this:

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be
respected and honored," he continued.

Respect is earned, and the world's religions have done just the
opposite over the last few thousand years.
Backtracking...

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when
satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of
others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken
Scientologist said.

Respect for Scientology will never be earned. There is a place in this
world for delusion, but there is a time when delusion ends and insanity
takes over.
