Beat On Light Templar |
Okay, I admit it, hypocrisy time...
SUVs & trucks are a symbol. Especially SUVs.
It's easy to pick on them. Real easy. But, I'm still an
American. I still quote the "founding father" and
argue "original intent" and I still don't like warm
beer.
The new Chrysler 300C
As much as I hate the symbolism of the SUVs, I've got
to admit, my mouth watered. Yes, watered at all 191+
inches of its length, its 5.7L 340 HP V8 and its 18 inch
tires.
A sedan.
Okay, so it's longer than my room mates Jeep Cherokee
and his a bigger engine than the Ford or GM "mid sized"
SUV, but it's *Only* a sedan.
Yum.

Yeah, but one costs an arm and a leg (plus a few more body parts) to run on a
daily basis. No, would much rather have a neat little hatch-back.

Yeah, but can you fit your dogs, ice chests and tents in the

No... but I have a motor-home for going camping so I can "get away from
it all" while taking it all with me :)
And yes, it drinks a lot of gas/petrol but I usually take less than a
dozen trips per season.

You don't get it. The car gets better fuel economy than *Any*
large or mid-sized SUV currently sold in the U.S., with the
exception of any Hybrids that might be available.
My room mate would actually *Save* almost 20% on gas if
he turned in his Jeep Cherokee for this 5.7L, 340 HP monster.
He'd go from 21 to 25 MPG.

And he'd be more likely to be able to safely avoid an accident. A recent local traffic
death was an SUV driver who swerved to avoid running in a truck/bridge collision,
and rolled over. Which reminded me of something I'd read...
http://www.gladwell.com/2004/2004_01_12_a_suv.html
I started reading the following article when I was waiting to see a doctor. I stayed
after the appointment to finish it (and later found it on the web).
Sincemy family income ultimately traces back to Ford, I was pleased that they
not only plan a hybrid SUV, but also plan a hybrid sedan.
(We drive an Escort and a Saturn, the youngest of which is over 7 years old...
need to be thinking replacement vehicles soon.)
