I meet my wife some 6 years ago. Every single time we have discussed a
vacation I said to here we should go to New Orleans. I explained that
the city was one major hurricane from disappearing forever. This was
well known and published. The weekend of Katrina we had gone away with
some friends. My wife's name is Catherine, but I like to call her
Katrina since I liked the sound. So we made jokes about the hurricane.
But all weekend long we watched the storm and the forecast and hoped
that it would move aside and miss the city. We all knew that if that
hurricane hit New Orleans it was all over and that the levees would
fail and the city would flood and disappear. We certainly anticipated
the failure, I know that the NOAA people predicted and anticipated the
failure. As it happens at the last few hours the storm did veer East.
New Orleans actually did avoid the Big One. And still the levees were
topped, they breached, and they failed.
If you only defense is that Shrub knew that a *failure* was
anticipated and that, *after the fact*, Shrub said that a *breach* was
not anticipated, then you accept that deception on that scale is
acceptable and acceptable in a president. What mattered to the people
in New Orleans and what mattered regarding the response from all, was
whether or not the levees would hold back the water or would fail. How
they failed, by topping, by breaching, or by both (all three occurred)
simply was not relevant to the disaster recovery. It is important for
disaster prevention, but that was not the issue.
You shrilly defend this dishonest incompetent empty suit. Why?
