Being Born |
Written by Sheila Kitzinger, this book was banned by fundie cultists
along with a whole slew of other books that cover human reproduction
because the fundies thought, "Nobody in their right mind would give
a book like that to children on their own, except the library."
I mentioned another book that was pulled by the same group of insane
fundies. I was able to locate this book in the shelves in the
children's section and, wouldn't you just know it! It's god photograps
of how children are born, from when the egg is fertalized all the way
through embryology, birth, and taking a bath at abour age 3.
Horrors! Children should NEVER learn how they were born! That'll
turn 'em into... um, well, educated children. Can't have that!

Many years ago I talked with a nurse in a continuation high school. She told
of showing a film on child birth and noticing a *very* disturbed and very
pregnant teenager afterwards.
Seems that up until the kid saw the film her mom's sex ed was all she had
received.
Mom told her the belly button opened and the baby came out...
Some 20 years earlier a school bus driver friend of mine told of a pregnant
teen who did not know how she had gotten that way... Apparently the parents
never got past the "When two people are in love and get married they have a
baby." talk.
Which, I guess is better than the idea of being fucked by a bird or a bee.

so, that was the book which *last year's* fundies donated with hopes that library patrons would be convinced, upon seeing
the photos, that abortions are sinful?
