Many older, "pagan" religions were more female-centric, focusing on the
life-giving ability of women. Once men figured out that women only got
pregnant because males impregnated them, the religions shifted to a more
patriarchal view.

I disagree. I think men are by nature chauvinistic (how many
matriarchal societies do you know?), and they change their religion to
fit those ideas.
