Berlin: More ethics, less religeon in schools |
We are making some progress:
http://de.news.yahoo.com/050228/336/4fpp6.html
The Berlin state coalition (not the German federal government, but the
state of Berlin) is discussing to introduce LER (Life, Ethics,
Religion) classes in the Berlin schools, which would effectively reduce
the the impact of religeon classes, because in LER the students are
informed about different religeons, instead of beeing indoctrinated for
a specific religeon.
In many Berlin schools less than 50% of the students attend religeon
classes, simply because as non-church-members they don't have to.
A Berlin speciality is the fact that there are classes called
"Humanistic Life" for the unchurched students, and also these classes
would be reduced with the introduction of LER. The difference is that
the teachers of LER are overseen by the government, while the HL
teachers are trained and overseen by the HVD, a humanistic organisation
(most members are atheist).
LER is also taught in the state of Brandenburg, and there are Humanistic
Life classes in some cities in the Netherlands.
It's a little different from discussing ID teaching in school isn't it?
