Bible quote of the Day for Aug 17 (many that are first will be last, and the last first) |
Matthew 19:23-30
23 And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be
hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell
you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than
for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 25 When the disciples
heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be
saved?" 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this
is impossible, but with God all things are possible." 27 Then Peter
said in reply, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What
then shall we have?" 28 Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in
the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne,
you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the
twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one who has left houses or
brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my
name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30
But many that are first will be last, and the last first.
----------------------------
At the time people actually thought that the rich and privileged were
the closest to God. Well of course. All of the earthly wealth and good
things in their lives must be blessings from God. The poor, the lame,
the lepers, the blind-- they were the sinners.
But Jesus here surprises his followers and tells them that the rich
will find it hard to enter the kingdom. The disciples are "astonished"
by this and ask him, well then who can be saved? If not those who are
closest to God, then who? Jesus almost seems exasperated, and says
with God all things are possible.
Yet many of us still think this way. We think that when bad things
happen in our lives we are being punished, and when good things happen
we are being rewarded. But Jesus clearly refutes that here. The good
things have their place, but the bad things as well.
Difficult times can make us better people. When we go through
difficulty we can become more in tune with our spirits, closer to God,
with stronger and more compassionate spiritual hearts. Do not hate
your struggle, turn to Jesus and learn from him, you will find rest
for your soul, and you will go from last to first.

I hope you are not one of those atheists who likes to go around trying to
convince people that atheists are happy, well adjusted people. You are a
prime example of why many people think that atheists are confused, bitter,
angry people. I think the obvious conclusion is that, that is exactly
where atheism leads.
You are a prime example of how Christians are incapable of telling the
truth
That is a prime example of HATE SPEECH.
Replace "Christians" with any other group.
Who do you sound like?

How can it be hate speach when it's true? What little homer
said is proof that christians cannot tell the truth.

That's an easy one. christians don't have to back up their

By the way, that's awfully slippery ground you're on given that

Their self-image is that are the good guys bringing "the truth" to the
rest of us, and that those not receptive to it are evil so they spend
the rest of their lives taking pot shots at the evil ones for the
Lord.
It's pathetic really - it has destroyed whatever vestiges of humanity
they might once have had.
They see nothing wrong with behaving like assholes to people outside
their religion because in their minds we're not even human.
And worse, they can't understand why people react so negatively to
their in-your-face nastiness.

faith is immoral and "unsaved." So it must also be "hate speech."
Some of the most blatant hate speech I've heard from atheists.
Claiming that a group isn't human?
Where have we heard before?
Nazi Germany,that's where.
Also what the Kook Kook Kook says about blacks, etc.

From christians claiming that Atheists are inhuman and
immoral. From christians claiming that Atheists are not fit
to be citizens and should not be allowed to vote. From
christians claiming that this is their christian country and
that all others can just shut up or convert. From christians
claiming that they are the originators of morality. From
christians that are too stupid to grasp evolution and want
their fantasy religion forced upon children in schools. From
christians that want to force children to pray to their gods.
Yep, christians are full of hate speech and whine like
little babies when they're called on it. They can do and say
what they want but no one can say anything bad about their
silly god or religion.
If you want to hear hate speech; listen to your fellow
christians.

I can't remember who said it, but I remember a christian poster telling me

I hope you are not one of those atheists who likes to go around trying
to convince people that atheists are happy, well adjusted people. You
are a prime example of why many people think that atheists are
confused, bitter, angry people. I think the obvious conclusion is
that, that is exactly where atheism leads.
You are a prime example of how Christians are incapable of telling the

That is a prime example of HATE SPEECH. Replace "Christians" with any
other group. Who do you sound like?
Wondered if that would bring anybody out of the woodwork.
Funny how you folk don't get mad at people who represent your religion in

By the way, that's awfully slippery ground you're on given that

And worse, they can't understand why people react so negatively to their
