Bible Quote of the day for July 13 (Would that you were cold or hot) |
Revelation 3:14-18
And to the angel of the church in La-odice'a write: `The words of the
Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.
15: "`I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you
were cold or hot!
16: So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will
spew you out of my mouth.
17: For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing; not
knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
18: Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that
you may be rich, and white garments to clothe you and to keep the
shame of your nakedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your
eyes, that you may see.
-----------------------------
I generally use the daily mass gospel reading for my quotes, but I
make an exception here because I think this is interesting.
Notice how he says "Would that you were cold or hot!" Apparently it
is better to be "cold" than to be "lukewarm." How can this be?
I think this might apply to some of the atheists. I asked the
evilbible the following question once: If you really don't believe in
God then why do you spend so much effort trying to prove God is
immoral?
He flubbed that one.
Lukewarm means to be indifferent. people who are lukewarm do not read
the bible, do not think about God, they are completely indifferent to
the whole thing. That is the worst state to be in. This does not
describe many atheists. Many atheists know the Bible better than many
christians. They may be angry at God, but they are not indifferent.
They are not lukewarm.
I have a feeling that many "atheists" are going to make it into the
kingdom of heaven. I think some of their hearts are not as far from
God as their words suggest. And never forget, God knows what is in
your heart, and it is there that you are judged, your words do not
fool him.

Sorry to disappoint you, Homer, but one can hardly be angry at an imaginary
character in a Bronze Age myth. However, we can and often do get angry at
superstitious fools who believe these myths and try to force that belief
onto everybody else.

I don't think evil editor is trying to show proof that an imaginary being in a
book of myths is immoral. Because it's imaginary you might as well say Santa
Claus is a child molester, or the tooth fairy is a thief.
What he *is* trying to do is just show the absurdities, the violence, sex and
general nastiness of the Bible, and how idiotic it is that people set such store
by it.

How refreshing, a relatively nice post from a xian for once.
I'll have to disappoint you on the "being angry at god" thing, though.
I might be angry at xians or a believers in general, but I have no
emotions regarding mythical creatures, be it goblins, fairies,
cyclops' or God.

How does one prove any fictional character has any characteristic except
by understanding the stories written about the character. If you read
your bible, how can you come to any other interpretation?

Another fool who thinks that our dislike of mind-robbing cults and their
beliefs is because we are "angry" at their mythical god.

I don't think this mythical "judgement" really worries us.
