Bible quote of the day for July 25 (to him who knocks it will be opened) |
Luke 11:1-13
5 And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him
at midnight and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 for a
friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set
before him'; 7 and he will answer from within, `Do not bother me; the
door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up
and give you anything'? 8 I tell you, though he will not get up and
give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his
importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs. 9 And I tell
you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock,
and it will be opened to you. 10 For every one who asks receives, and
he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 What
father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish
give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a
scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to
your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy
Spirit to those who ask him!"
----------------------------------
When we realize that christianity is a fundmentally spiritual
enterprise, it is easy to become confused. How much easier it is to
have something tangible to lead us, something that we can see and
touch, or read. The bible is very important but we should never
forget, Jesus did not leave us a written text, he left us the spirit.
Reading the bible or any other religious materials alone will not save
you, following the spirit will.
So where is the spirit? How do we find him? How are we to understand
and go about this? Jesus answers right here. Seek and you will find.
If you make the effort, you will be rewarded. We are promised that. Do
not ask for material things because they are not important, the flesh
is of no avail. Seek spiritual guidance, seek to be lead by the
spirit, seek to learn how to communicate with, and understand, the
holy spirit. Ask and you will receive. How much more will the heavenly
father give the holy spirit to those who ask.

How true.
How much easier it is to
have something tangible to lead us, something that we can see and
touch, or read.
Or even an example, like a christian following the teachings of the bible.
Funny we never see such things.
The bible is very important but we should never
forget, Jesus did not leave us a written text, he left us the spirit.
Reading the bible or any other religious materials alone will not save
you, following the spirit will.
Since we don't see anyone following a spirit, can we assume no one is saved?
So where is the spirit? How do we find him? How are we to understand
and go about this? Jesus answers right here. Seek and you will find.
I seek any evidence whatsoever that any of this is true. Haven't found any.
If you make the effort, you will be rewarded. We are promised that. Do
not ask for material things because they are not important, the flesh
is of no avail. Seek spiritual guidance, seek to be lead by the
spirit, seek to learn how to communicate with, and understand, the

But oddly, all we see are hypocites like you.

That's an easy one : The God of Israel!
Numbers:11:5: We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely;
Numbers:21:5: And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore
have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is
no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light

6: And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the

Strange how the Egyptians (meticulous record keepers) have nothing
recorded about a large population of Jewish slaves in Egypt. Equally
strange is no mention of water turning to blood, the boils, the frogs
etc. and the death of all the first born. You'd think there would be
second hand accounts galore.
Another puzzle is there being absolutely no forensic evidence to
suggest a quarter million Jews lived in the desert for forty years. No
bones, pot shards, fire pits....nothing.
Lets not forget that the only evidence this Moses character has for
his existence is only in the bible. How strange for a powerful leader.
Can you provide any insight to these 'discrepancies'?

like something other than a drone.
I think this essay may be by someone named mark Raines?
**A subject is introduced.**
The Father God named El
**A basis for the subject is given.**
El from Religion of the Canaanites
El is the name by which the supreme Canaanite deity is known. This is also
a name by which God is called in the Old Testament -- El, the God (Elohim)
of Israel (el elohe yisrael: Gen. 33:20). In most prose it occurs more
often with an adjunct: El Elyon (the most high God, Gen. 14:18), El
Shaddai (traditionally, God Almighty, Gen. 17:1), El Hai (The living God,
Josh. 3:10), and very commonly in the plural of majesty, Elohim. In Hebrew
poetry El is much more frequent, where it stands quite often without any
adjunct (Ps. 18:31, 33, 48; 68:21; Job 8:3).
**Background & a reference is provided.**
The word El is a generic name for "god" in Northwest Semitic (Hebrew and
Ugaritic) and as such it is also used in the Old Testament for heathen
deities or idols (Ex. 34:14; Ps. 81:10; Is. 44:10). The original generic
term was 'ilum; dropping the mimation and the nominative case ending (u)
becomes 'el in Hebrew. It was almost certainly an adjectival formation
(intransitive participle) from the root "to be strong, powerful" ('wl),
meaning "The Strong (or Powerful) One."
**The history involved is lightly mentioned,**
In Canaanite paganism the el, par excelence, was the head of the pantheon.
As the god, El was, in accordance with the general irrationality and moral
grossness of Canaanite religion, a dim and shadowy figure, who, Philo says,
had three wives, who were also his sisters, and who could readily step down
from his eminence and become the hero of sordid escapades and crimes. The
Ugaritic poems add the crime of uncontrolled lust to his character and the
description of his seduction of two unnamed women is the most sensuous in
ANE literature (much of Ugaritic literature is R rated at best).
**A brief discussion*8
Despite all this, El was considered the exalted "father of years" (abu
shanima), the "father of man" (abu adami), and "father bull", that is, the
progenitor of the gods, tacitly likened to a bull in the midst of a herd of
cows. Like Homer's Zeus, he was "the father of men and gods."
Dr. Katia writes:
Don't be dismayed by the "bad things" the Canaanite version of El was said
to have done. Canaanite and Phoenician society was depraved (child
sacrifice, sex slavery, vicious torture and execution methods, etc.) and so
they made their gods and goddesses as violent and sexually perverse as
themselves. The true El later became or merged with the Hebrew god. He was
a noble, fatherly, kingly figure. Contrary to modern fiction and fantasy,
the societies of the past were not full of romantic "noble savages." We
moderns must resist the urge to think wistfully, "religion was so much
better, so much purer back then." No. It wasn't. Religions and societies
evolved as humanity marched on into civilization. Only the fittest, most
noble, honorable, loving-but-firm Gods survived. They exist on the
heavenly and worldly planes, accessed by tapping deep into our human
psyches. Our gods are in our DNA.
The end.
See how it is done?
No, well I will keep trying to help you figure out whether you can say
anything worth noting, or will be resigned to a job with your name on a tag
on shirt due to lack n mental agility.
Luke 11:1-13

When we realize that christianity is a fundmentally spiritual
enterprise, it is easy to become confused. How much easier it is to
have something tangible to lead us, something that we can see and
touch, or read. The bible is very important but we should never
forget, Jesus did not leave us a written text, he left us the spirit.
Reading the bible or any other religious materials alone will not
save you, following the spirit will.
So where is the spirit? How do we find him? How are we to understand
and go about this? Jesus answers right here. Seek and you will find.
If you make the effort, you will be rewarded. We are promised that.
Do not ask for material things because they are not important, the
flesh is of no avail. Seek spiritual guidance, seek to be lead by the
spirit, seek to learn how to communicate with, and understand, the
holy spirit. Ask and you will receive. How much more will the
heavenly father give the holy spirit to those who ask.
The gullibility of people continues to amaze me. That someone would
actually believe this stuff!
I'm not sure many do. Look at the excitement a prayer "study" gets when it
comes up with findings that the results "may" be statistically significent.
If the above was true such a study would be as valuable as seeing id a ball
falls to the ground if you drop it from five feet above ground.
A caring person would do more than this god says it would do without being
asked.
They preach it in church but start adding on conditions when it's brought
up.

St. Luke never claimed to be there. He recieved the information from the
Apostles who were there, and wrote it down as they described it. His account
is more than compatible with Sts. Matthew and John, who were actually there,
and St. Mark, who recieved his info from St. Peter (who was also there.)

Wow! You have first hand accounts for the vast majority of recorded history?

Or one ignores references by contemporary writes, or one ignores
archeological evidence or, or or or or.
Bit of a broken record there High. Need to oil your typing fingers?
Then there are writings left behind by some of those historical records,
monuments, stella's [Hammurabi comes to mind there], etc.
There is none of that for the xian claims that comes from disinterested
parties. You want a list of the so called historical references, & why they
are not? I would like a list of historical references for your pantheon,
but I will never see one in my lifetime, & I doubt anyone ever will.

Okay, knowsalot, this nobody from Nazareth (who didn't actually exist) sure
left a big impression, countless documents, (all of which are invalid, of
course), were written about him. Now, let's see, who ruled the known world
at the time? Oh yes, Tiberius. There must be plenty of disinterested first
hand accounts of him! .....no? Oh... well, then we can safely assume that he
did not exist. That begs the question, who did rule the Empire at that time?
Maybe Augustus lived longer than we thought, or perhaps Gaius took over
early. Come to think of it, there are no disinterested first hand accounts
of those guys, either. Arrrgh! What a mess we've created!
hugh betcha, who will now search through his personal papers to try and find

Countless? Do count them. Documents written by men who "knew" Jesus,
or heard first hand accounts from men who "knew" Jesus.
Now, let's see, who ruled the known world

What makes you claim we have no first hand accounts of Tiberius? We
have quite a few, scattered far and wide. Also, nobody claims Tiberius
performed miracles. Ordinary claims require ordinary evidence.

Nope. Lots of documentary evidence of them. We know when and how each
came to power. But even if we didn't, we would be working with the best
evidence we have. Claiming that MEN existed, and that MEN did the kind
of things MEN do requires a lower standard of evidence than claiming
that a GOD appeared, doing things GODS do. Extraordinary claims require
extraordinary evidence.

Looking for evidence that an idiot exists, and does the things idiots do
requires very little evidence. We already know idiots exist.

That would be quite an archeological discovery. Did he claim to be divine,
like his predecessor Augustus? Is there disinterested first hand accounts of
Augustus that could prove his divinity, or ascension? No? Oh.

We know all that from 2nd, 3rd, 4th... hand sources. The oldest source that
mentions Julius Caesar (who claimed to be a god) is dated to the 2nd century
AD. Certainly not a first hand account. For example, one principal source
for that info is Tacitus, who lived 5 generations *after* the fact. Point
is, there is far more evidence to support the existence of Jesus than anyone
else in ancient history. His miracles cannot be proven, of course, that's
different issue.
Looking for evidence that an idiot exists, and does the things idiots do

Hmmph. I may be an idiot, but know that historians would *kill* to have all
the 1st and 2nd hand accounts that Jesus has, for all the other great people
in history.
