Bible Quote of the Day for June 10 (you will never get out till you have paid the last penny) |
Scripture: Matthew 5:20-26
20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the
scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 21
"You have heard that it was said to the men of old, `You shall not
kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.' 22 But I say to
you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to
judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council,
and whoever says, `You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire. 23
So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that
your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there
before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then
come and offer your gift. 25 Make friends quickly with your accuser,
while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over
to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison;
26 truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the
last penny.
-----------------------------------
They say that the original word for sin that was used in the gospels
meant to stray. We see that it is following the anger and evil that
is in our heart that is the sin, and not the violation of a law or
commandment. To only literally follow a law is not enough. We are told
that anger comes from evil, not the spirit. To sin is to stray from
the guidance of the spirit.
So here we find a deep statement on the meaning of sin, and how we
will be held accountable. Find a quiet, peaceful place each day to
pray and meditate. you will feel the spirit in your heart. You know
what the right thing is. It is in you and you can feel it. It may not
be the easy thing to follow, sometimes it will be, but sometimes it
won't be. To follow what is right in your heart is to do right, to
follow evil and anger and treachery in your heart is to sin. It is to
this process that we are called and it is on these terms that we will
be judged.

That is one of the exceedingly rare good bits of
philosophy in the Bible.
And you don't need a god belief to believe it.
However in the same Bible ,God
also commands us to, among other things, do a lot of killing.
The big problem is that a lot of people believe it
and act on it.

I'm rather amused you stupid christians would quote this 'holy'
bleat.
Your fabricated deity murdered billions and continues to do so to
this very day and you idiots think you have the moral high ground. Not
to mention it has a place for eternal suffering for anyone not loving
it. Pretty sick stuff.
You should stay away from preaching morality and god to atheists.

It appears you have the wrong quote, again. Do that often do you?
The prince of the tribe of Gad bore the name Eliasaph, "God multiplied;"
son of Deuel, "God is a witness." To reward them for passing over the
Jordan and not returning to their property on this side of the river until
the promised land was won, their wealth was multiplied by God; for when,
upon returning, they found the enemy at home, God aided them and they
gained all their enemies possessions. God was furthermore witness that this
tribe had no wicked motive when they erected an altar on their land.
See, that makes more sense.
You are welcome.
walksalone who doubts Homer knows where that came from, but it is part of
his mythology's history.

IOW sin is for people who believe in ghosts. I was right, I'm not a
sinner.
So here we find a deep statement on the meaning of sin, and how we
will be held accountable.
Since none of this crap can be held accountable outside of your religion,
I shall not worry.
Find a quiet, peaceful place each day to
pray and meditate.
No.
you will feel the spirit in your heart.
Never have, never will. Even the few times in my life when I considered
myself religious, and even accepted the christ into my heart, I never
felt any different. Oh, wait. I did. I felt stupid.
You know
what the right thing is. It is in you and you can feel it.
It is in me because Man is a societal animal, and we've learned through
trial and error that "thou shalt not kill" is a given, lest ye wish to
become an outcast. Worshipping sky critters? That's just silly.
It may not
be the easy thing to follow, sometimes it will be, but sometimes it
won't be. To follow what is right in your heart is to do right, to
follow evil and anger and treachery in your heart is to sin.
Wrong, because sin does not exist beyond the walls of your church. To do
unto others as you would have them do unto you is what is right in the
mind of a societal animal, and that understanding predates your religion
by millennia. Like it or not, gods are not necessary in human society.
It is to
this process that we are called and it is on these terms that we will
be judged.
This is *****.
