Object: Bible Quote of the Day for June 14 (if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also)
Scripture: Matthew 5:38-42
38 "You have heard that it was said, `An eye for an eye and a tooth
for a tooth.' 39 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But
if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also;
40 and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your
cloak as well; 41 and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with
him two miles. 42 Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him
who would borrow from you.
---------------------------------
Evil is always trying to draw us in. It does this in many different
ways. It may be in a sneaky way, or in a confrontational way. Jesus
tells us here that when Evil confronts us in an angry confrontational
way, there is no way to directly fight it without becoming a part of
it. In directly fighting evil we will become evil as well. When
someone is confrontational with you, you will immediately feel the
anger in your heart. This is exactly what evil wants. It is trying to
suck you in. Don't act on it, you will be going the wrong way.
What we are told here is to ignore it. Take the high road, walk away,
refuse to allow it into your heart. When a co-worker, boss, friend,
whomever, becomes angry and confrontational with you, do not allow
evil into your heart. Do not respond in kind and become a part of it.
Just walk away.

What happens if any one tells you to shut up? From these examples above, one
would expect the good Christian to not only shut up, but leave and never
return.
What's your excuse?

Funny isn't it that he says he started his own little xposting fest to

The cognitive dissonance of him posting *this tidbit as part of a

Weird huh?

Okay, this paragraph is a little better. Except I find nowhere in the
scripture above that talks about just walking away from from
confrontation. In fact, the scripture above says to oblige the evil
person, allow him to do his evil things. Please understand that I do
not post this in opposition to you, I just don't see everything you've
said in this scripture.

What I am proposing is that this ties in with his general theme
regarding how we are to follow the good that is within us, and not
evil impulses. See my posts above for June 9 and June 10.
I think he is talking about a little bit more than just people going
around slapping each other. What is someone trying to do when they
slap you? They are trying to start a fight with you. If you respond in
kind then you are answering to the evil within you, and not the good.
Just what eviI wants. It is trying to suck you in and make you a part
of it. I think jesus is here warning us to not go there.

A drive-by poster.
It's a metaphor based on the concept of a drive-by shooting, where the
shooter blasts a victim or two, then drives off into the night never to be
heard from again.
