Bible Quote of the day for June 5 (she out of her poverty has put in everthing she had) |
Scripture: Mark 12:38-44
38 And in his teaching he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to go
about in long robes, and to have salutations in the market places 39
and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at
feasts, 40 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long
prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation." 41 And he sat
down opposite the treasury, and watched the multitude putting money
into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor
widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he
called his disciples to him, and said to them, "Truly, I say to you,
this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to
the treasury. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance; but
she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole
living."
--------------------------------------
The jews knew a savior was coming, but they imagined someone very
different from Jesus. They were under roman occupation and so they
imagined a warrior-like leader who would lead them in a confrontation
with the romans. However jesus had no interest in the romans, and
incredibly his teachings would lead him into confrontation with the
scribes, pharisees, and high priests of the jewish community itself.
This was not some band of thugs, but those who were considered, and
who considered themselves, to be the holiest people of all.
He tells us to beware of them, and that they will receive the greater
condemnation. Do not believe that your outward acts will save you
because they will not. Just going to mass, just making a show of it,
just contributing financially to the church, this gets you nowhere by
itself. And not only that, but even with all this, you may still be
headed for the greater condemnation.
God knows what is in your heart. Your actions do not confuse him. And
it is upon what is in your heart, and in your spirit, that you will be
judged.

Commentary:
Jesus says to give every last thing you have to the Church. Even
if you don't know where your next meal is coming from, he wants what
little you do have. Don't make him kill you like Ananias and Sapphira
(Acts 5).

Ananias and Sapphira were killed not because they held back, but because
they lied.

If that is the case, which it does not appear to be, then why are liars
professing xian liars, not struck down dead. Or does your pantheon no
longer provide dog & pony shows at the whim of the *elders*.

That is not fair. All things were held in common, like a communists

According to this, all kind and sincere Atheists will receive a free
pass! So much for Duke's lose/no-win formula.

If they accept Jesus as their personal Savior, they may indeed.

Clearly, according to homer's take on his god, there is no need to
accept anything as true except what you yourself accept as true. This
goes both for theists and atheists alike.
In my experience the silly sentiment "what goes around comes around"
is very true. Rather than cower and plea to the images of my
imagination, I deal with the problems that I've unwittingly created.
Nothing but a better person can come of that. Otherwise, hypnotic
trance induced by dogma to solve the problem, AKA "Dead Head", can be
the only result. :+)
Even "God" is said to help those who help themselves. Why is it that
the religious folk think "God" isn't taking to them? Who else would
"God" be talking to?

Either demonstrate that it exists outside your overworked imagination,
