For some reason, Dannyboy's rant reminds me of a scene from the movie
"Troy." In the film the Trojan High Priest Archeptolemus (played by
the always delightfully slimy Nigel Terry, best known as King Arthur
from "Excalibur" and Prince John from "The Lion in Winter") recommends
to King Priam that he follow a flawed military strategy based on what
he interpreted the birds doing. Priam's son Hector angrily stands up
and says, "Bird signs? You want to plan our strategy based on bird
signs?" Priam unwisely takes the advice of his priest instead of that
of his militarily experienced son which, of course, leads to the
complete and utter destruction of his kingdom.

The moral of the story is that when you listen to ignorant, selfish,
power-mad, brain-dead, religion-addled priests instead of competent
professionals, you will only put yourself and those you love in
danger.
