John Hancock: Blacks outperform whites
At the John Hancock School in Philadelphias Far Northeast, black students, who make up one-third of the school, are as successful as the white students - and sometimes more so.
About 78 percent of the schools black fifth graders ranked as advanced or proficient on this years Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exam in reading compared with 68 percent of white students. In math, both groups were equally competent, at about 67 percent.
