He showed up a month or so ago wanting everyone to write to politicians to
have drugs banned. That's pretty much it for over a year If he keeps it

And:
IAN m
Usage: Scottish, English
Pronounced: EE-an
Modern Scottish form of JOHN

What? You want him back here?
Maybe for a day to tell us why he left.
Then we could apply it to Earl.
I thought Iain was a newbie. How could he know about Boaty?
Iain's been around longer than I have...he just dissapeared for a
while.
I don't remember him from earlier on, but then I only read 10% or
less
of the posts around here, so I probably missed him before.
I remember him from when I first got here because I couldn't work out
how
the hell you would pronounce his name.
Iain is another form of Ian, right?
I think there's some kind of Gaelic twist in the pronunciation.
A dictionary says:
IAIN m
Usage: Scottish
Scottish form of JOHN
And:
IAN m
Usage: Scottish, English
Pronounced: EE-an
Modern Scottish form of JOHN
So Ian is derived from Iain.

So, do cars go into Carrs much, rainy days?

I also asked him how to pronounce his name when I first saw his
name come up a few months ago.
Iain is another form of Ian, right?
That's what he said when I asked him, iirc. Ian is two
syllables in English, at least my version of it, which sounds like
eeee-unnn. But Iain looks like it might sound different, and if
pronounced like "pain" could end up being one syllable if you try
hard enough

It's EE-AIN.
It is from Hebrew "Yon", like John. In normal speech it just sounds
like "Ian". I don't mind if you want to make the "I" consonantal like
Iuluis Caesar and Iesus (I suspect therefore my name is related to
Jane, but I'm not sure).
Like the other poster says, it's a gaelic varient of "John".
I had a classmate called Eon[sic].

It's EE-AIN.
So it's two syllables after all, instead of one, like in John
or Jane.
It is from Hebrew "Yon", like John.
Why did the Hebrews leave out the vowels, in your opinion? To save
space, or simply to confuse other people?
In normal speech it just sounds like "Ian".
Same as Yawn, without the J?

You should wonder if it's related to Jack and Jill as well, don't you
think? They went up the hill for some reason...

Manny's author is called The Captain - yeah I was in on it. I think it
was an obvious troll from the start but that changed nothing.
Manny was born with no hands or feet in 1975 in Northern Ireland, to
Catholic parents. By the time he was five, they thought their son was
a banshee, so they put him in a cardboard box and posted him to
Mexico, where he spent ten years living as a goat. He returned to
Britain to work a servant's wage, but instead got a part-time job as a
chandelier. He soon suffered from repetative strain injury and was
taken down. Out of work again, he spent another ten years living under
the ***** of a local pervert called Graham, a youth minister in charge
of tea and biscuits at a village church. It was he who taught manny
everything about "the god of flow" and "the runnie runnie river of bad
race relations" and about why "breastfeeding leads to immorality and
basin".

I'll bet it was hard to post usenet messages from inside that little
