Jan. 29 - Rev. Stephen Jones was born in the hospital on the campus of
Bob Jones University, and he jokes that he never ventured too far away.
A graduate himself of the fundamentalist Christian school that his
great-grandfather founded, Jones will become its president in May at
the age of 35. His father, Bob Jones III, who's presided for
34-years, felt the Greenville, S.C., institution-a de rigueur
campaign stop for conservative politicians and a flash point for social
issues-needed a leader closer to the present generation. Stephen
Jones spoke with NEWSWEEK's Susannah Meadows about God, temptation
and wearing ties to class.
