Body Recovery |
If someone is killed in a skiing accident or boating accident, and
there is no suggestion of foul play, we the public will often spend
millions of dollars to recover the body. Ditto for lost hikers or
people who die in small plane crashes.
What then happens with the corpse? We burn it or bury it.
Why do we do this? For RELIGIOUS reasons. Because of that, I don't
think it is proper for the taxpayers to foot the bill. The family or
the religious organisation who believes these magic ceremonies are
necessary, should pay for it.
Surely a ski slope is a fitting default "resting place" for an avid
skier or a the boater's favourite lake for a boater.
Similarly I am annoyed that Canada has spent tens of millions of
dollars dealing with Robert Pickton, the serial killer, purely for
revenge for the women who are already dead, but would not spend a
penny on the victims while they were alive to prevent this fate.
This is irrational. There like some nutty religious motivation behind
it. I think it has something do with the women not deserving
protection because many were hookers or drug addicts, but after
sufficient suffering at the hands of Picton, they were redeemed and
thus started to matter again.

I've included this in my advanced directive so my wife knows . . . let
nobody risk death or injury recovering my body.

I may well specify that the only rescuers that will be allowed to
attempt to retrieve my remains in extremely hazardous circumstances
are to be rabid theists.
Might as well take one or two out at my passing. ;)
