This thread below was not initiated by me, and I wrote none of the
messages in it. On Aug. 9 at 3:23 PM I was on a plane bound for Oaxaca.
I have no idea how anyone is able to counterfeit a post to look as though
it was made by me.

It happens rather often here. I wish Usenet had a system to prevent
forgeries, but it's all too easy to do. So easy that even brain dead jerk
like Kennie Boy can do it. Although, he's far from the only one. . .

It is very simple from anonymous remailers Carol. Note that the remailer is
the SAME one somebody else uses to post attacks on me.

You can read about Ken Pangborn at <www.aboutkenpangborn.com>.
Ken uses an anonymous remailer, probably a chain of anonymous
remailers. There are tools like JBN and Idaho Potato used with PGP. A
message with forwarding headers, like the "from:" header, and
forwarding instructions is encrypted with a remailer's key. If chained
through several remailers the total encrypted result is used as the
message to be enveloped a preceding remailer with added forwarding
instructions and the total encrypted again with that remailer's key.
The process is repeated for each remailer. The first remailer has no
idea what the final destination is, or what the message is, the last
remailer has no idea where the message came from. Because it is open
to abuse a remailer will add a "comments:" header advising that the
"from:" header in the message may be forged.
On your newsreader you should have a way of displaying all headers. If
you look at the full headers of your message you will see the
"Comments:" header and the path will tell you it did not come from
the forged "From:" address. I was not able to find the original
message in this thread but these are the full headers of a similar
message forge in the name of Michelle. The headers of the message
forged in your name would look like these.

Here you can see that the message came from mail2news. It was fed
there from <remailer.frell.eu.org>, an anonymous remailer and of
course you can not know where it came from before that remailer. There
is a Comments:" header added by the remailer.
Messages from Ken Pangborn have the usual features. They are his
signature.
1) X-posted to <alt.dads-rights.unmoderated>.
2) From a remailer with an attached Comments header
3) Short, often repeated offensive bigotry, partly capitalised
4) impersonating a newsgroup regular
