Few details of Kimberly Wooten’s life have trickled out in the month
since she was charged with setting a series of local brush fires,
including one that destroyed four homes.
When you ask, people will tell you that she is friendly. That she
takes care of the members of her CHURCH. That they don’t know how she
could be charged with these crimes.

Wooten, who worked part time at Gallery Homebuilders in Irmo, is an
active member of Dutch Fork CHRISTIAN CHURCH.
A few CHURCH members described her as thoughtful, saying she even sent
her senior PASTOR three smiley-faced balloons when he cut his hand.

In 1992, Wooten was charged with shoplifting more than $100 worth of
items from the J.B. White department store at Dutch Square, now a Belk
store. The stolen merchandise included clothes, baseball caps, towels,
pot holders and a collection of Pinocchio videos.

The warrant said she picked up various items and went into dressing
rooms in two different departments. She exited with fewer items. She
placed the merchandise in a baby stroller and covered it with coats
before leaving the store.
She pleaded guilty a year later and was sentenced to 20 days in jail
or a $414.25 fine. She paid the fine in two installments — $200 on
Jan. 5, 1994, and $214.25 on Feb. 1, 1994.
