Thousands of good books and audio products on the market from Thich
Nhat Hanh, Dalai Lama, Huston Smith, Kapleu, Ajan Chah, Suzuki,
Thompson, Kornfield, Wilson-Ross, Shambhala...the list is almost
endless. The internet and the libraries vast audio and written
resources all offer a wealth of learning and support and all for
free.
A recent search showed 713 hits for Buddhist related books, sound
recording, etc at my library. Just be mindful of not getting struck
being a 'concept collector' and using learning as just another
distraction from actually practicing the essence of Buddhism in your
life.
Some recent books that may be worthwhile to your studies include:
Living and Dying in Zazen, Parting From the Four Attachments, Dharma
River (video) Zen in Search of Enlightenment (video), Buddhism Plain
and Simple, Buddhism Is Not What You Think, Buddhism in Ten, Art of
Living, Hard-core Zen, Buddhist Monks and Business Matters, Journey to
mindfulness, Approaching the Great Perfection, Steps on the path to
enlightenment, Wisdom of Listening, Daughters of emptiness (especially
for women) Sadhana - The Path to Enlightenment (video), Monastic life
in Medieval Daosism, Gateless Gate.
After getting down the basics, maybe you wish to study the Pali canon
a little. Depending on the version it covers 50 to 100 volumes and
tens of thousands of pages, but don't despair. 'In Buddha's Words' is
a good readable primer Also check out The Middle Length and Long
Discourses. All are published by Wisdom Publications.
