Book Shredding |
Just heard an interview on the radio. It was with the guy who is
organizing a protest.
He said that their plans are to visit libraries and "shred" books they
feel are obscene.
The linked article doesn't mention the shredding part, but it gives you
an overview.
Here's the article:
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/3384228
Here are some brief excerpts:
Jim Cabaniss, president of American Veterans in Domestic Defense, says
the group has a list of 70 books that it believes are inappropriate. It
contends the books contain pornographic pictures or promote
homosexuality.
''Our purpose is to deal with the excessive smut and pornography in the
children sections of the library," said The Woodlands resident.
Cabaniss said the group's ultimate goal is to have certain members of
the Montgomery County Commissioners Court and members of the Montgomery
Library Board replaced with people who will vote to remove the books.

Presumably his list would include the Bible?

Isn't "Banned Book Week" coming up soon? Think how much better off we
would be if we banned those "obscene" books like 1984, Huck Finn, etc..

Banned Book Week was last week. Our local library had a very nice
display, which was surprizing given what a small, conservative town
it is.
