bought a Qur'an today... |
it is my Dad's 6th Anniversary of passing today
I was walking to the Doctor's this afternoon to make an appointment and
I walked past a shop selling Qur'ans...
I went in the shop to enquire, and got myself an English translation
for =A33.50...
then I caught the bus to Darwen Cemetery
visited my Grandad's grave first, then visited my Dad's grave which had
lots of flowers on from my Mum and sisters
the Qur'an was in a carrier bag, so as not to offend my deeply Roman
Catholic Grandad and Dad, but I wonder what they would have thought if
they knew I had a copy of the Qur'an with me...

Let me get this right.
You put the book in a bag so your dead relatives wouldn't know you
had it.
Uh.
Do they see you through the dirt but not the bag, or are spirits
unable to see what people carry in bags?

Maybe it's a lead-lined bag that prevents them from using their X-ray
vision.

Leaving aside that you worry about the opinion of dead people...
Are you sure you bought a Qur'an? It wasn't a Beano album? £3.50 sounds a
wee bit unlikely.

That's assuming he ever opens the book up.
The fact that he's worried about his Dad's ghost seeing him with a
Qur'an tells me that he hasn't even read a Bible, which IIRC pretty
clearly states that dead people are *dead* until they're bodily
resurrected on Judgment Day.
If he hasn't read the holy book for his own religion, why would he read
the one for another?

By strict definition you can be an atheist who believes in life after

He apparently believes his dead father *is god. Which makes for some
rather surreal posts...

Hi Jake, welcome.
Of course you can be an Atheist and believe in reincarnation. I once
knew a Christian who didn't believe in God. I once met a scotsman who
couldn't stand bagpipes. All part of life's rich pageantry.

Now don't get me wrong, I aint taking footy's side, but even as an atheist, of
very long standing, (there are no seats at the bus stop), I often find my self
wondering what deceased friends, or family, would think about a particular
action.
It may be one of the reasons why xtianity is so popular. I doubt that any of us
like the thought, that we will never see those loved ones again, and although
reason tells us they are gone, there is a corner of the mind, that still thinks
of them as being there.
As to my own grandfather, I doubt he would know what the Qur'an was, so it
wouldn't bother him.
My father, what I remember of him, was probably a catholic, certainly the most
of my relatives on his side were, but he would not be bothered. He was a "Live
and let live" sort of bloke.
And I have drunk too much, and am getting maudlin, which is a sure sign that it
is bed time, (:-)
G'night all.

The Quran is a bit hrder to read than the Bible for me because I'm not
as famliar with Arabic historical events as I am with the Levant
Israel and the Quaran assumes you have a working knowledge of it.
It's also rambles at times.

Perhaps that you were interested in what the other side believes? There
is nothing wrong with gaining knowledge. Knowledge is power. Why do you
think atheists read the bible?

As far as I can figure, dead people don't think. A working brain
seems to be required for thinking.....and dead people no longer have one.
But anyways, I suggest you put the new book in a rubbish bin. You
have enough problems as is!

Since you refuse to respond any longer, to what any of us would say.
Why do you bother posting your crap?

Don't care. The Koran is just as big a book of fiction, mythology,
blood, gore and lies as the bible is.
We don't care what your "theory" is. Take your bleating, and post it in
a religious forum where people will give a crap about it.
