Bracks to change pedophile laws

THE Victorian government will change the law this week to ensure
pedophiles can be forced to live inside prison walls even after they
are released on parole.
The move comes after male witch Robin Fletcher won a Victorian Supreme
Court battle last week to be allowed to live in the community instead
of in a unit inside the walls of Ararat Prison.
Fletcher, who enslaved teenage girls, successfully challenged the
conditions of his extended supervision order, imposed under the Serious
Sex Offenders Monitoring Act.
Today, Premier Steve Bracks said the law would be changed to ensure
pedophiles cannot be released into the community if the Adult Parole
Board decides they should live on prison grounds.
"This solution will be a long-term solution which really allows for the
provision within a housing setting, within a prison, for someone on an
extended supervision order to be monitored after they have served their
sentence," he said.
Last week, Justice Bill Gillard found the Adult Parole Board had acted
unlawfully by keeping Fletcher behind prison walls after he had
completed his jail term.
Fletcher finished his prison term in June after he was jailed in 1998.
He used hypnotism and mind-altering techniques to entice two
15-year-old girls into prostitution, sadomasochism and black magic.

For every child that is molested or assaulted by a "sexual predator",
there are THOUSANDS that are abused by their caretakers: parents, foster
parents, friends of their parents, etc. In the USA, 4 children die EVERY
DAY from abuse at the hands of a member of their own household.
So, why so much fuss about pedophiles? If your concern is for child
welfare, you should be pushing for more funding for social welfare
agencies.
Could it be that politicians don't want to get involved in a difficult
discussion about the rights of parents versus the rights of their
children? It's easy to pass laws about "sexual predators", but they are
not the problem. It's like the parent that won't have a child vaccinated,
because they worry about the safety of the vaccine, but then don't put
them in a car seat when they get into the car.
So, the original question remains: should pedophiles be treated as
criminals, or as someone with a mental illness?
