Bringing it all into perspective - a video any atheist should -want- to see... |
This video doesn't obviously have anything to do with some of the things touched
upon in alt.atheism on a daily basis - at least, not at first.
An ordinary house with attached two-car garage in an ordinary community in the
United States. Presents are being wrapped, decorations are being put up, a cake
is being prepared.
A young girl - just fourteen - is awakened seemingly by a younger sister and
finds she's been left an early gift. Much like any such young girl might do,
she tears into the gift and runs into the bathroom to try it on. She's
indistinguishable from any other teenage girl as she examines herself in the
mirror. Anything could be on her mind as she fluffs up the empty shirt where
her bosom will someday be - perhaps like many such girls, she's wishing she were
better endowed. Or perhaps she's just annoyed by the excess cloth, not yet
needed for one so young as she.
Her mood isn't at all sour, in fact she seems quite satisfied in a way. But the
viewer will notice that some of the women around her appear very wrapped up in
the events of the day - the cook more emotionally so than the others as her eyes
fall upon a saying on the wall that apparantly gives her strength. She's being
dressed and primped and preened - everything a girl about to be the guest of
honor at a party might have done to her. And slowly, ever so slowly, things
begin to seem just a little less normal as one of the other women washes the
girl's feet.
In the kitchen, an older man walks past the cook - they are familiar to each
other. He tries some of the icing and gives her a peck on the cheek. The girl
walks out to a yard party complete with playing, squalling children and
relatives of all ages. Still, everything looks normal - though for only a
moment longer.
The event begins. The cook looks sad at the girl, the man who kissed the cook
moments earlier however looks anything but.

There is no actual dialog to the film, and at the end that facet sums it up just
OH, so well. If you don't understand what's going on by the end of the film,
read some of the comments and reviews beneath it.
I was speechless the first time I finished watching it. It brings -so- many
things many of us in alt.atheism seem to care about into much sharper, almost
instant focus.

<sigh>
Somewhat disturbed while watching because I was afraid it would be a
sacrifice of a different nature.
<Death>
What it is in fact is more realistic.
I'm disgusted and pretty pissed now.

I agree. That was disturbing.
