Burka Question |
OK, so I know that muslims must think that guys are such horn-dogs that
they would not be able to control themselves if women walked around
showing skin. Strangely, all us depraved western males seem pretty able
to control ourselves (at least most of the time ;)), despite copious
amounts of clevage, midriff and hips getting shown. (Thank you, low-rise
jeans and thong panties)
But here's the problem with the logic of the Burka. Covering a woman
from head to toe might prevent men from lusting after women. But it
certainly doesn't prevent women from lusting after men who have no such
requirement except for say a phat, scruffy beard, some PJs and a head
diaper. I believe that even muslims subscribe to the whole garden of
eden thing and by that account, women were allegedly even more
susceptible to temptation than men. So it would seem to me that men
shoudl be the ones wearing the burkas, or perhaps everyone should wear
one, if the goal is to reduce sexual temptation.

I once heard a Muslim claim that this was why Western divorce rates were so
high. His theory was that because Western men are so used to bare flesh
they can't get aroused, leading to divorce.
My theory was that he thought that "love" was the kick you get out of seeing
someone naked. When you get married off to some girl at age 13 (as he had
been) without ever getting a chance to develop a proper relationship, you
could quite easily go through your entire life not knowing what love really
is.
He didn't like my theory much.

Western divorce rates are so high because people live much longer than
they used to. Our brains aren't wired to stay interested in the same
person for more than a decade or two.
