Well, Bush sure smells bad, and engages in hypocrisy with every other word
that blurts from his mouth, but I don't detect hypocrisy here.

Not really. While God and Mammon are supposedly two different things,
God has always been one of Mammon's more effective tools for oppressing
the people, so Bush serves both. As a Randroid, Cox's unrestrained,
unquestioning belief in laissez-faire capitalism is consistent with the
Bush economic agenda. If he rejects one tool in the oppressor's
toolbox, he makes up for it with a fanatic devotion to one of the
others. He also scores major brownie points with the more libertarian
branch of conservatism, which has become increasingly alienated by
Bush's religious agenda, while at the same time deflecting criticism
from atheists and liberals.

Do people "follow" Ayn Rand?
They might agree with her. But it tends to be "followers" who see
following elsewhere.

According to Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic magazine, yes.

He does it all the time - he found a black woman to agree with him - he
made her Secretary of State. He found some women who agree with him -
they get federal judicial appointments. He doesn't care. Next he'll
appoint a homosexual who doesn't believe in gay right to something. As
long as they back him, he loves them (or the publicity, same thing in
his mind).

Already done, and twice. One was appointed to the White House Press Corps
on a permantent temporary pass. The other is a very well regarded GOP
operative who recently married his long-time boyfriend in Massachusetts.

Not really. The Bushites have always put money (barely) ahead of
religion, and Rand was about nothing if not the unfettered ability of
the individual to amass as much wealth as possible, by whatever means.
