Pretty damn funny: Bush almost plugs in electric cord to hydrogen fuel
connection on car. Ford official races to prevent blow up... Too bad it
didn't happen. But, it illustrates one of the idiocies of hydrogen. Sooner
or later there are going to be catastrophic accidents when the high pressure
stuff blows in a wreck. Secondly, as Bush shows, hydrogen cars are not for
idiots!

I am no fan of fuel cells, but someone needs to point out that we have
catastrophic accidents with gasoline tanks in vehicles, and it has been so for
as long as we have been using gasoline as fuel. Diesel is less dangerous, but
still subject to the occasional disaster. We will always have catastrophic
accidents as long as we carry the concentrated forms of energy that we really
need to drive a practical car for hundreds of miles.
In today's energy environment, I truly believe that fuel cell vehicles are
a dead end, but not because of the fuel tank.

Yeah, but you ain't seen noth'n until you've seen a 10,000 PSI tank go off.
Gasoline just burns, slowly at that, by comparison.

It probably will be rarer than car gasoline fire by a factor of at least 100
and probably 1000.
The danger five minutes after such an accident would be zero compared to the
danger from gas.
Givewn a choice between crawling into a car with a gas spill and an H2
spill, I'll go for talking funny every time.
Not that it would be at 10k PSI any more than a propane tank is.
Propane tankers, at least the tank, survive accidents that would rupture a
gas tanker in a heart beat.
(Note, the above have nothing to do with the shares I'm selling for
hydrogen wells.)

Had Bush been around during the Model T days, he would have tried to
stick a torch into an open gas tank.

Does the design actually allow this to be done without modifying the plug?
