Bush's government intrusion into Stem Cells Research
Aug. 9 - President Bush plans to announce tonight whether or not he will
allow the federal government to fund embryonic stem-cell research. Here are
some of his past statements on the issue:
"Taxpayer funds should not underwrite research that involves the destruction
of live human embryos."
(Written response to U.S. Catholic Conference questionnaire, Aug. 21, 2000)
"I oppose federal funding for stem-cell research that involves destroying
living human embryos."
(Letter to the Culture of Life Foundation, May 18, 2001)
"It's the need to balance value and respect for life with the promise of
science and the hope of saving life . [I]t is an issue that, on the one
hand, deals with so much hope - hope that perhaps through research and
development we'll be able to save lives. It's also an issue that has got
serious moral implications."
(News conference, July 23, 2001)
"This is a very serious issue that has got a lot of ramifications to it
and . I want to hear all sides. I want to fully understand the opportunities
and to fully think through the dilemmas . This is way beyond politics. This
is an issue that speaks to morality and science and the juxtaposition of the
both."
(News conference, July 19, 2001)

To find another administration as anti science as this one, I think
that one has to go back to the 16th century Popes.
The truth is that stem cell research is and will be carried on, if not
in the US, then somewhere else. Say goodbye to our lead in
biotechnology and other scientific endeavors.

-The ability to change one's mind, ideas, and opinions when confronted with
new facts is the sign of the rational and intelligent. The inability to do
so is the hallmark of the dimwitted and the fanatic. This applies not only
to science and philosophy, but also to politics.-

Makes sense. After all, if children aren't produced and raised
to age then they can't be killed in his imperialistic endeavours.

Personally I am all for stem cell research but his has some religious/moral
issues like abortion. The Federal government should neither fund nor inhibit
stem cell research.
