Blocking the Dubai port deal pushes away from us some of the few
muslims who didn't already hate us.
It's a mistake.
Dubai actually has higher security standards than other operators. For
instance, they check ALL shipments to the US. The average is 5
percent.
And having another firm run these dock facilities isn't going to
protect us from an attack. There are many soft spots along the
transportation chain which can easily be exploited.
So we aren't really going to improve our safety, and blocking the deal
costs us support.

President Bush's administration gets a few things right.
It's got to be the worst administration ever - but I'm on their side
on this one.

I have to admit that, while I'm not convinced, I'm starting to come
around to that point of view. The arguments I hear (and there aren't
many) in favor of the purchase seem to be pretty logical. On the other
side of the argument, most everything seems to be an appeal to emotion,
basically a 'Come On! It's the UAE! In charge of our ports!' approach.
It's even funnier when reporters press the politicians on 'is it because
they're Arabs?' I've yet to see a politician answer yes to that
question.
I think the biggest story here may be how badly the White House bungled
this whole thing. If the White House had been a little more forthcoming,
rather than their usual 'screw Congress we'll do whatever we want to'
attitude, we might be seeing some honest debate on the subject.

administration, flout the laws of the land, load your administration
with incompetent cronies, pay off your good old boys, and lie
