A Vallejo clergyman was convicted this morning of the misdemeanor
vehicular manslaughter of a 6-year-old girl at an intersection last
year.
The jury returned its verdict against Albert Lee White around 10 a.m.,
defense attorney Frank Epstein said. White faces a maximum of one year
in the Solano County jail when he is sentenced in June, Epstein said.
"It was a tragedy for everyone involved,'' Epstein said.
Joanie Marcos was killed and her 14-year-old sister Sheree was
critically injured when White's 2000 Hyundai Sonata struck the girls
in the intersection of Sutter and Tennessee streets on Feb. 3, 2005.
White, 67, an associate minister at the Highway Church of God in
Christ, said he was turning up his windshield defroster when the
accident occurred. The defense claimed the girls ran into the
intersection.
The jury began deliberating Wednesday.
