Carol Woytila the pope |
The pope is very ill, and in Italy we are asking: how long can he survive!
They think about an American pope, who can decide more than Bush's politics.
An USA pope could be very strong because of his usual role and his
nationality.
What do you think about ?
Bye bye
p.s. I'm an atheist, and that possibility make me think a lot about our
future.

Not long. All men die. I made USD 100 on the death of JP1.
They think about an American pope, who can decide more than Bush's politics.
Not a chance. From what I gather the curia regards the US as a more or
less lost cause. Besides given the scandals in the US as regards - not
so much the child abuse in the US RCC, but the cover ups that followed
it, the election of a US pope would be - IMO - impossible. Baring a
miracle, of course.
An USA pope could be very strong because of his usual role and his

They may play it safe, but the first black pope seems not impossible.
Which would, as an interested onlooker, be interesting. And remember
JPII has just created a bunch of Cardinals who will have voting rights
on his death. Think about why he elevated them. And it won't be
because they're raving moderates. Trust me on that.
That said I am now on the phone to a big chain of UK bookmakers
getting odds on what country the next pope will come from.

Ok, for strange bets, you have to write to them. Anyone want to put a
few quid in on a spread bet? We'd do it through Paypal. As a Vatican
watcher I'd be inclined to put a few bob on an African pope, and a
little more on a South American. But we'll probably get 2/1 on an
Italian.
Your thoughts welcome.
But this is the bookies that quoted 500/1 on Elvis returning from Mars
on a UFO. MAde me suspect they know more than they're letting on....

As you know when they have to choose a new pope, they are like politicians !
I think that a US pope could be right for catholics. They need of someone
who can talk to US people, in other way, catholics need of an US cardinal.
How much US cardinals are there?
Wojtyla is a Polish, and they had need a Polish because of comunism.
Now, they need of a US cardinal, because of terrorism!!
That's my mind.

Why not a Chinese pope for the same reasons on choosing a Polish one?

Why not a Chinese pope for the same reasons on choosing a Polish one?
It's too dangerous... Catholic Bishops, in China had to be loyal to the
State Church and had to refuse Rome Church....
Then China does not menace any catholic state... but during Cold War, USSR
menaced Poland, Romania and other East Europe Catholic countries...

What do you think about ?
After the latest news about american priests & C., I think there is a
minimum probability to have an American pope.
Rather, I think the next pope will be Italian. First of all we have to
consider that the most part of the conclave is composed by Italian
cardinals.
Try to imagine how useful will be an Italian on Pietro's throne...
- A more incisive policy in Italy, especially regarding abortion and "sweet
death" practices. In this period, infact, the popular will is often aganist
catholic positions. An Italian pope could calm this movements...
- Italy is an immigration country, especially related to muslim people...
Sure it will be a good deal for Vatican's headmasters to contrast the
infiltration of the islam in Europe...
- Another need the Roman Curia could satisfy, is to have an European pope.
In particular, excluding a French pope ( French Curch is traditionally far
from Rome), a German Pope ( Germany is a nation prevalently lutheran ), and
north Europe countries pope ( it' very improbable ) we can fence our choice
between a Spanish or an Italian pope. As my sixth sense says that a Spanish
pope, beacuse of historic matters, could not be elected, the only
possibility is an Italian cardinal.
- The pope had to be european because of the EU constitution : if this
pope would die soon, a pope belonging to "old europe" could influence this
document...
Thanks for your attention

Dear Dio,
the pope is called "deputy of Dio ("Dio" means "God" in italian) on Earth",
but the deputy looks more skilled in languages than the principal (as a
consequence of the "Divine Murphys' Laws", one of the onthological proofs of
Dio's existence). The pope is able (or "has been able") to address in a
bunch of different languages, so I opinate that we have to pay him due
respect, spelling right his name, in spite of our bad relationships.
Alas, I haven't installed UNICODE on this PC, so you can't see the right
diacritics. Anyway, you've just to put a little hatch in the middle of each
"l" to get the right spelling.
My best diacritical greetings,
Angelo.

I've understood. It sounded a pope-supporting post, but it's just an ironic
reply to our "Dio". He has been annoying it.cultura.ateismo with his posts
dealing with the importance of language skills, and I've decided to give him
a lesson in polish ortography :-) Crossposting makes a civil war become an
