Cartoons again... what's with the left-wing? |
http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/02/10/sweden.cartoon.reut/index.html

CNN refuses to show the cartoon. Apparently religious fundamentalist
sensibilities are more important than reporting the news. CNN have
certainly lost my respect. CNN also refers to the "Sverige
Demokraterna" as far right-wing. Which is not true at all. They may be
politically right, but they are no more right wing than the republican
party. To call brand them racist extremists either shows the ignorance
of the CNN network or the gap in political realities between europe
and the US. In Sweden for instance you get accused for being a nazi if
you propose tighter immigration controls.
And the swedish government is outraged that some of it's citizens have
printed the cartoons in their newspaper. It will be very interesting
to see if Sweden attempts to quell freedom of speech (which is already
under attack in the country). Those guys are pretty much ready to roll
belly up if islamic terrorists ever threaten them.

Re-showing the cartoons doesn't really add anything to the news-value.

First off, they never showed it a first time, did they? And why should
they stop? Because extremists could be offended? Oh, boo fuckety hoo.
To hell with CNN and other pansy ***** media who turn their back on the
very thing they make their living on.

CNN's been pretty much worthless for quite a few years now.

No, but it keeps the debate alive. The original article asked the question
"why can we ***** on the bible, but not the koran?". Is it fair that muslims
have such a special position in our supposedly free society? Those
questions need to be properly debated, and if muslim forces manages to hush
everything up, we've achieved nothing.

Re-showing those cartoons are really way too much honor for the makers,
since they really not that good as far as starndards of cartoon-making
go.

They re-showed the Abu Ghraib photos how many thousands of times, and
how many Muslims sensibilities were supposed to be offended?
Oh, but that was *different*, wasn't it?

The quality of the cartoons are also not in debate. Face it, they are
newsworthy, and the only reason they're not showing them is because of
fear.
Thousands of people died on september 11, 2001. Are we really going to
dishonor them by letting extremists shut us up over a bunch of fucking
cartoons that belong in a child book?

I fully agree. It's not about the cartoons anyway - the point is, the people
who have been fighting the publication of these cartoons are the same sort
of people who were responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Giving in to them is
like handing over victory to the terrorists.

Many have done just that. Idiocy.
