Catholic Charities donations for hurricane relief top $100 million
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CNS) -- Catholic Charities USA has raised $101 million for
hurricane disaster relief and has allocated more than $36 million to 58
local Catholic Charities agencies and other Catholic organizations.
Across the country more than 80 local Catholic Charities agencies are
assisting hurricane victims by providing food, financial aid, clothing,
shelter, gas and retail store cards, and household goods; helping with
medical and prescription needs; offering cleanup assistance; helping victims
work with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials; and providing
crisis counseling, case management, transportation, job placement, and
temporary and long-term housing.

during this difficult time.
Al-Noor
Al-Noor Society with the help of 6 other Masajid (Mosques) will be taking
supplies on Saturday to Lake Charles.
ASIA Society
The American Society for Islamic Awareness ( ASIA Society) has directed
refugee families to a home and is working on finding more alternate homes.
The space is over crowding please contact to help.
CAIR-Houston
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) together with ISGH
and Crescent Youth are coordinating a blood drive to replenish the supply on
September 30, 2005 . The drive will happen at three locations across Houston
Crescent Youth
Crescent Youth is coordinating area High School Muslim Students Associations
(MSA) in a competition to collect toiletries and non-perishable food items.
El-Farouq
Masjid El-Farouq is currently sponsoring refugee families and is
distributing other forms of assistance as well.
ICNA-Houston
Islamic Circle of North America (INCA-Houston) is organizing a team going to
Baton Rouge Friday after Juma prayers on 9/2/05.
ICNA has a coordinator with Islamic Center of Baton Rouge assisting
approximately 200 families and need your support in raising $250,000 across
country.
IEC
The Islamic Education Center (IEC) is collecting food items to go straight
to the Houston Food Bank.
IEC has started a Katrina account and has enrolled 20 new students in the Al
Hadi School from Louisiana, the fulltime school offers grades K-12.
ISGH
Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) is setting up 50 gallon drums at
various locations and two trailers at their north locations for collection
of non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items and other needed items.
ISGH is also presenting several locations to the Red Cross for possible
certification as temporary refugee centers.
ISGH has information on a limited number of apartments available for
Hurricane Katrina victims and have started a Katrina account as well.
Madrassa Islamia
Madrassa Islamia is sponsoring refugees coming from Louisiana some are
staying in the Masajid and they have vacated several apartments to house
women and children.
MAS-Houston
Muslim American Society of Houston (MAS-Houston) is assisting families and
refugees to find lodging; they have access to three shelters, and organizing
options on other locations.
MAS-Houston has already helped place families in living quarters and has a
central office coordinating this effort.
MHPS
The Muslim Health Professional Society (MHPS) is gathering names and
contacts of Muslim doctors who would like to donate their services and time
to help refugees in Houston.
MHPS is urgently appealing to all the Licensed (Unrestricted) Internal
Medicine, Family Practice & Primary Care Physicians and Specialists, to
sign-up for Duty
PACT, PAT & PAST
Pakistan American Council of Texas (PACT), Pakistani American Association of
Texas (PAT) and Pakistan American Society of Texas (PAST) on Saturday Sept.
3, 2005 between 10.00 AM and 4.00 PM and Sunday Sept. 4, 2005 between 12
Noon and 4.00 PM will be collecting:
Canned Food, Medicine, Diapers, Baby Food, Bottled Water, Blankets and
Sheets, Paper Goods, Cleaning Supplies, Non Perishable Goods, Peanut Butter
PAGH
Pakistani American Association of Greater Houston is situating families in
various apartments and that they are serving meals on daily basis along with
providing basic needs and logistic support including jobs, food stamps, FEMA
support and etc.
PAGH has also collected substantial food and clothing available to serve
families and more donations are pouring in every hour. This relief center is
