followers that he's gay -- but that he doesn't actively ***** men so
that makes it okay.
Fine. But why would _any_ gay person work for a cult that's
profoundly, overwhelmingly hate filled and bigoted against gays?

Well, being gay does not imply that one is not religious or not persuaded
that Christ was real or that the Catholic church isn't, mostly, right. So,
he was probably brought up Catholic, believes most of the doctrine and feels
called to serve.
I know a guy who became a priest later in life. He just felt "the call."
He couldn't describe it any other way.
