A Roman Catholic civil rights group called off a boycott of Wal-Mart on
Friday after the world's largest retailer apologized for an employee's
e-mail that called Christmas a mix of world religions. "This is a sweet
victory for the Catholic League, Christians in general, and people of all
faiths," said Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious
and Civil Rights, said in a statement on the group's Web site. Wal-Mart
Stores Inc. said Thursday that a customer-service employee named Kirby had
written an inappropriate e-mail to a woman who complained that the retailer
had replaced a "Merry Christmas" greeting with "Happy Holidays...

I am somewhat puzzled. If they are a "civil rights" organisation, what
civil right of Catholics was denied when someone got an email? Were
they being denied the right to vote? Or the right to marry? Or where
they just using their right to be whiny?

Yes, as I've always said, vote with your feet. Catholics (and all
Christians) seem to be finally starting to stand up to the ridiculous
sanitizing of the 'holiday' season. I'm going to raise a toast to Mr.
Donahue and the Catholic League for their hard work in reminding us to
be vigilant this CHRISTmas!

Yeah I'm just still impressed that with all the disease, death, disaster,
hunger, war, and such in the world, the great accomplishment lately of
Christians is they made Wal-Mart squeal "Merry Christmas."
Man, you people really have a god to *fear. Why, if he gets mad atcha, he

Hmmm, well, I'm certainly not refusing to grasp that not everyone shaes
my beliefs; and if you'll remember back to the original issue, we had
NO problems with the IN-clusion of Kwanzaa and Hanukka, but we DID have
a problem with the EX-clusion of Christmas. As for being polite, I
think we were; we didn't threaten to sue or blow up any Wal-Marts, we
just threatened to shop elsewhere.

Funny, I would have had a probkem with the generalization of Xmas so as to
say
that it was everyone's holiday rather than just mine.

So you retract your statement about people who would rather hear "Happy
Holidays" because it's inclusive?

Indeed, it's a great time for all, but according to a few at
Wal-Mart, it's everyone's holiday EXCEPT the Christians.

As for being polite, I

think we were; we didn't threaten to sue or blow up any Wal-Marts, we

Actually, I don't recall exactly what you mean. It makes me happier to
hear 'Eid Mubarak' ,'Happy Hanukka' and 'Merry Christmas' at this time
of year. If you have no particular religious or cultural reason to be
celebrating, and it pains you for some reason to say these phrases,
then the blandly generic 'happy holidays' will have to suffice, I
suppose.
