Catholic press attacks call for Pope to apologise to Templars
I read with interest the article in today's Catholic Herald about
calls for an apology for the persecution of the Templars. It appears
that the Catholic Herald does not recognise the case for an apology.
The article quotes three individuals, one academic and two authors,
who between them argue that the Templars ceased to exist and
"deserved" to be oppressed, therefore no apology is necessary. These
sentiments are echoed by the editorial inside the newspaper. The
implication would seem to be that the Vatican is wrong to be
"seriously considering" issuing an apology.
However, there remains a clear and legitimate case for an apology, and
I will now demonstrate. Firstly, we know that Vatican records
vindicate the Templars. Secondly, apologies have rightly and justly
been expressed by the Vatican over similar issues, setting a reliable
precedent. Finally, even if the Templars had been guilty of heresy,
nobody sane would dispute today that it is wrong to torture and burn
people alive under any circumstances.

Let's see if I understand "catholic logic" correctly:
If there are no more templars, then there is no one to
apologize to...in much the same way as the British don't
need to apologize to the Tazmanians they annihilated.
If there are templars, they don't deserve an apology
because they "don't exist"...in much the same way the
catholic cult denied the jews a right to exist for the
last thousand years.
That makes so much sense. 9_9

Deep in the Catholic heart is the desire to stamp out all heretics.
Much is made of the glorious past when they had the power to do so.

In contrast, the top international Catholic newspaper, The Tablet, did
not take sides and covered the news with a neutral and unbiased report
of the basic facts:-
Secretive Knights
THE ANCIENT Order of the Knights Templar likes to obscure itself in a
shroud of mystery. The knights are seeking an apology for the way they
were persecuted by the Church 700 years ago. But the source was
unwilling to give details of the society today or the work it does.
"Even in today's more tolerant climate the Order may not be understood
by everybody," our informant said, adding that the Knights Templar is
a substantial underground organisation. Apparently some younger
members believe it is now time to stop hiding and step into the
daylight. "After centuries of silence, secrecy has become a difficult
habit to break, but all will be revealed in due course," we are
promised.
The Knights Templar was one of the principal crusading orders, founded
in 1118 in Jerusalem where it became a powerful and wealthy military
force. Nearly two centuries later Pope Clement V colluded in a scheme
with Philip the Fair of France to wipe out the Order and seize its
legendary fortune. Members were accused of heresy, idolatry and sexual
perversion, and many were tortured and murdered. The Pope disbanded
the Order by papal bull at the Council, of Vienna and many leaders,
including the Grand Master, Jacques de Molay, were burned at the stake
in Paris in 1314.
The Order wants an apology from the present Pope, John Paul II, in
time for the seventh centenary of the persecution, due to be marked by
a ceremony in 2007. "It would be just and fitting for the Vatican to
acknowledge our grievance before this date," said the letter sent' to
the Vatican on behalf of the Grand Master.

The Catholic Herald (UK and Eire) describes a humble and polite
request for an apology as a "demand" and offers a defensive response,
"we do not need to apologise", as though Catholics are somehow under
attack which is manifestly not true.
Fortunately the only response that matters is the response from the
Vatican.

Well, gee, here in the United States we spent an entire election talking
about the war. The Vietnam war, that is.
Yup. It nicely distracted everyone from the war that's going on right
now.
I guess it worked so well that they thought it would be a good idea
if the distracted us all from the religious conflict in America with
some nonsense about what took place 700 years ago.
Not that "history" or "Facts" matter any (just ask maff), but just so
long as we all lose sleep over what we like to think happened
700 years ago -- instead of what is taking place right now -- than
it's worth it.

If it only happened in the past then you can 'let bygones be bygones'.
But the Vatican is still practicing terrorism even now. Then the whole
period is going to be re-examined and the victims and their estates
are going to be compensated. It's as simple as that.

Not to get technical, but it didn't even happen in the past. It was the
French crown behind the persecution of the Templars.
But it's not like facts matter here. If they did, you'd be worried about
the PRESENT, the on-going take over of a nuclear superpower by
a minority, fundamentalist "Christian" movement.
But the Vatican is still practicing terrorism even now.
And you gave us numerous examples. There was a 600 year old treaty
designed to avoid conflict between Spain & Portagual for example.
But, hey, let's do our parts to keep attentions away from what's
happening right now, like a good little slave to JesusBush....

Yes. And it's supported by card-carrying homos like Rep. David Deier

atheists, as demonstrated all too well by "Fred Stone" and that festering

But it's not supported by the Vatican. In fact, the Vatican flat-out
REFUSED direct calls from the Bush junta to get involved in internal

The issue is Vatican's links with 'Opus Dei' and the
theoconservaatives.
The "links" are actually the other way around, and you
were previously pretending that there was some
"secret" financing going on that only medication-deprived
weirdos knew about.
Are you saying that Opus Dei and the theoconservaatives don't support
the Vatican financially and morally?
Who said it was a secret? I said the opposite.

Allowences for the fact that I have no idea what you're getting
at with your "theoconservatives"....
I'm not saying anything.
But if you're asking me if Catholics support their church, the
answer is yes.
Why this gives you a hardon I don't know.
Perhaps you can explain it to us?
The idea that members of a religion financially support their
religion gets you all excited because... ???

You can always read upon news stories about theoconservatives and 'Opus
Dei'.
I'm not saying anything.
You can always comment when you've time to read upon the news.

Individual Catholics aren't the issue. The issue is theoconservatives
and the 'Opus Dei' and their links to the Vatican. They're the bankers
for the Vatican. You should know by now that bankers call the tune.

Tried it on news.google.com and got nothing.
So I tried it on cnn.com and got nothing.
Once again, I can't find a *Single* shred of evidence to support
the claim that you're not making this ***** up as you go along.
You can always comment when you've time to read upon the news.
That's the thing about invisible news, it takes a long time to read.
I mean, how do you know when you're finished?
Individual Catholics aren't the issue.
It's pretty clear that the issue is a very deep emotional problem
on your part.

Google news still seems to work. Are you using the Vatican server?
Opus Dei
http://news.google.com/news?q=%22Opus%20Dei%22&num=100&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wn
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Opus+Dei%22&num=100&hl=en&lr=&tab=nw&ie=UTF-8&sa=N
Theoconservatives
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&selm=18510aff.0411081416.7b718c6b%40posting.google.com
You can always comment when you've time to read upon the news.

Ask the Vatican. Evasion won't save the Vatican, Opus Dei or the
theoconservatives.
Individual Catholics aren't the issue.
It's pretty clear that the issue is a very deep emotional problem
on your part.
But it won't be me who'll bring any charges. It's the victims and or
their estates who'll bring the charges from the present as well as for
any crimes committed in the past.

Great. So why can't you post a cite from news.google.com, instead
of URLs to some randomly chosen usenet postings on the google
archive?
This shouldn't be difficult.
Seriously.
I don't know why you keep failing, but if you explain the situation,
maybe I can point out the issue.
You keep posting the URLs to random usenet threads -- and even
sometimes to whole newsgroups -- because.... ???
You can't cut & paste a quote because.... ????

Criminal Court along with JTEM.

If Vatican, Opus Dei and theoconservative fascists are going sacrifice
their lives and monies for the cause then by all means go for it.
