Ever notice how the Catholic culties get real quiet when the truth of the
church and their response to the holocaust comes up?

It is far more likely that the Catholic Church wasn't all that upset
about the loss of the Jews. After all, they had worked on the problem
for hundreds of years without a "final solution".

Mentioning that little fact undermines your whole argument to the
point of collapse.

Nonsense.

The Church had hundreds of years of complete dominance in Europe, if
it had wanted to eliminate the Jews it would have done so, just like
it did to Mithraism and all the other religions that existed at the
end of the Roman era.

The church never had "complete" dominance of Europe. They also had a
problem eliminating completely a culture which is so clearly central to
the bible. That didn't stop the RCC from continual persecution of Jews
wherever and whenever possible.

The historically literate know the answer. The Church deliberately
protected Judaism, tolerating it like no other rival religion,
allowing the Jews to maintain their culture and thrive.

What crap. The RCC barely tolerated the Jews, and is in fact responsible
for the flourishing antisemitism in europe.Generations of Catholics were
taught that the "Jews killed Jesus". For much of this history the Jews
were forced to live in ghettos reserved for Jews, rather than among the
general population.
You have a funny definition of "thrive".

I grew up and attended Catholic school from kindergarten
through high school. We were NEVER taught that "the Jews" killed
Jesus. Yes, many people involved in Jesus' death were Jewish. Many
were Romans. The religion, ethnicity, call it what you want, of the people
involved is not what was emphasized.
Plus, we know that Jesus forgave the people responsible, for they knew
not what they did.

I am sure that became true in the latter half of the 20th century after the
holocaust. Prior to that anti-semitism was rampant through much of the
world, with the Catholics doing more than their fair share to keep it
stirred up.

Plus, we know that Jesus forgave the people responsible, for they knew
not what they did.

As I read it, they had to do what they did, else Jesus made the trip to
earth for no reason.

I was. The custom in the US was never as intense or as universal as
it was in Europe. The Church in Europe was quite openly anti-Semetic,

I guess it depends upon what kind of nun you're quoting. But they're not
infallible anyway.

Until the time of Pope John it was the position of the Church not
individual nuns.

References?

Ask a few people who attended Catholic school in the 50's. Look up
Pope John's apology to the Jews. It should be easy enough to find.
As a good Catholic surely you have heard of the apology.

No references - as expected.

I, in fact, gave you a reference. Look up Pope John and his apology
to the Jews. It will be quite simple to find. It took place in the
mid 60's. There was a great deal of talk about it among Church
circles, the secular press, and even the governmnet of Israel
commented on it publicly. It is not an obscure event.

Thanks for the late breaking news. And what did the Pope confess to exactly?
And we were speaking of your last Confession, Mr. "no axe to grind"

Yes, many people involved in Jesus' death were Jewish. Many

Plus, we know that Jesus forgave the people responsible, for they knew

Yes, I was told the same when I was in Catholic school.

Yes, I do notice it is awfully quiet from that section.

Amazing how inconsistent you are in your "burden of proof" requirements. If
it's something that you believe that no one contests, you claim that the
proof is in the silence. If it's something you don't believe, and we bury

We were reporting personal experiences. Talk to Catholics who
attended Catholic schools in the 50's and earlier. The terrible
suffering the Jews suffered throughout history was explained by saying
they were cursed because they had killed Christ. The Bible verse used
was:
Matthew chapter 27, verse 25: "And all the people answered and said,
'His blood be on us and on our children.'"
The Catholic Church was not the only Church that taught that the Jews
were cursed or that used that verse, but they did teach it and they
did use that verse.
